The total <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/US-Navy-COVID-19-Updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">includes<\/a> \u201c5,035 active component and 2,960 Ready Reserve service members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the first 45 Navy service members released included 23 Active Component Sailors, along with 22 Entry Level Separations (ELS). ELS members refer to members within their first 180 days of active duty, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>Despite 3,258 \u201cactive duty requests\u201d for a religious accommodation for exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine, zero requests have been approved. As of Wednesday, just 10 permanent medical exemptions, 259 temporary medical exemptions, and 59 administrative exemptions have received approval.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to active duty requests for a religious accommodation, 776 Ready Reserve members have made a request. Zero have been approved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my responsibility to deliver the most capable force and this guidance helps us maximize mission readiness,\u201d Vice Adm. Bill Merz, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans and Strategy, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Press-Office\/News-Stories\/Article\/2913727\/us-navy-issues-covid-19-standardized-operational-guidance-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Navy continues to execute its mission around the world while we work through the challenges of this pandemic. Vaccinations, vaccine boosters, command engagement, and personal accountability are the foundation of our success in fighting COVID-19,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy\u2019s COVID-19 vaccination <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2021\/Aug\/09\/2002826254\/-1\/-1\/0\/MESSAGE-TO-THE-FORCE-MEMO-VACCINE.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadline<\/a> was November 28, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy\u2019s report follows an Air Force <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/US\/2021\/12\/14\/Air-Force-remove-vaccine-mandate\/8461639505540\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> in December that said 27 members were removed for not complying with its COVID-19 vaccine mandate deadline on December 2.<\/p>\n<p>As of January 25, the Air Force has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/2831845\/daf-covid-19-statistics-jan-25-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not approved<\/a> a single religious accommodation request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs of Jan. 21, the Air Force has administratively separated 111 active duty Airmen,\u201d according to the update.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/a-huge-military-disadvantage-congressman-writes-usmc-general-requests-disclosure-over-vaccine-related-troop-dismissals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Florida Republican Rep. Brian Mast shared his concerns about the vaccine mandate for Marines in a letter to General David H. Berge:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOn top of the unconstitutionality of President Biden\u2019s vaccine mandate, this has serious implications for our force readiness,\u201d Mast wrote.&nbsp; \u201cSeparating hundreds \u2013 and potentially thousands \u2013 of Marines for exercising their rights can put the United States at a huge military disadvantage.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The letter asked the general about the 206 Marines discharged for refusing the vaccine and how that could potentially affect the USMC\u2019s readiness.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI understand that as of December 30, 2021, the U.S. Marine Corps has separated a total of 206 Marines for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine,\u201d the letter read. \u201cFurther, USMC has not granted a single religious exemption of the 3,247 it has thus far processed, despite USMC having a higher vaccination rate than all countries except the United Arab Emirates. The consistent denial of religious exemptions strongly indicates that further separations are forthcoming. Therefore, I request a disclosure of the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of each of the 206 Marines discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the MOS for each of the 3,247 Marines who have been denied religious exemptions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cruz-president-biden-is-wrong-for-punishing-our-servicemembers-over-their-religious-freedom\">Ted Cruz<\/a> (R-TX) tweeted: \u201cPresident Biden is wrong for punishing our Servicemembers over their religious freedom.
