While Hawn certainly did not dismiss the pain and suffering inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic, she argues America has failed to help children through the dread they are no doubt experiencing.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Today, we are in the midst of a national trauma that could very well surpass 9\/11 and approach the heightened terror of the Cold War years. The COVID era has changed our children\u2019s lives in far more real, tangible ways \u2013 social distancing, school closures, daily mask use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Kids are afraid of people, spaces, even the air around them \u2013 a level of constant fear not seen in decades.&nbsp;In early 2021, emergency room visits in the United States for&nbsp;<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/wr\/pdfs\/mm7024e1-H.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suspected suicide attempts were 51% higher for adolescent girls and 4% higher for adolescent boys<\/a>, compared with the same time period in early 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">This tells us that as a nation, we have failed our children. The few federal and state dollars that get directed to youth \u201cmental health\u201d invariably end up being earmarked for&nbsp;<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/newsroom\/press-announcements\/202105181200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addiction<\/a>&nbsp;and \u201c<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/newsroom\/press-announcements\/202105181200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crisis care<\/a>,\u201d&nbsp;addressing only the most severe disorders. There are modest funds once a kid ends up in a hospital. But what about before?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_19643642\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1237045400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19643642\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1237045400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>(JAMES ARTHUR GEKIERE\/BELGA MAG\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Hawn recalled her own work with educators in the wake of 9\/11 to help children handle trauma and better understand how their brains process events.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe share ideas like \u2018<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weareteachers.com\/brain-breaks-for-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brain breaks\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;to encourage kids to stay in touch with what\u2019s going on in their mind \u2013 the good and the bad \u2013 so they know that their brain is their friend,\u201d she noted. \u201cAnd if they don\u2019t get along with that friend sometimes, if it says things that make them feel bad, that\u2019s OK&nbsp;too \u2013 and we help them work through that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Ultimately, Hawn concluded that America needed to get to work on helping the children, fearing that an entire generation could be lost due to the nation\u2019s lack of concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe will&nbsp;survive the COVID-19 pandemic, but&nbsp;I\u2019m not sure we can&nbsp;survive an entire generation whose collective trauma sends them hobbling into adulthood,\u201d she concluded. \u201cWe need more research, more preventative care&nbsp;and more early intervention. And there\u2019s still time.\u201d Cc<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Goldie Hawn\u2019s op-ed comes after she said that actors need to stay out of politics and instead focus on entertaining people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we bring awareness to people, just their ability to laugh, to have joy, to experience and to cry. We are emotional beings and create emotions in others and it\u2019s an escape.
