Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/54E9945F-C4FF-419C-B447-72D64215C9C3-1200x800-1.jpeg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p><span>On Wednesday, United Airlines announced plans to purchase up to 200 flying taxis from Archer \u2014 an electric aircraft startup based in Palo Alto California \u2014 a deal estimated to be worth $1 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Wall Street Journal<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/united-airlines-invests-in-electric-air-taxis-11612981954\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a> <span>that the \u201c<\/span><span>tentative agreement is a stamp of approval for Archer, which said Wednesday that it will go public through a combination with a special-purpose acquisition company in a deal that values the combined company at about $3.8 billion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>United Airlines is partnering with regional carrier Mesa Air Group, and plan to use the flying taxis to \u201cwhisk passengers over congested highways to hub airports.\u201d The purchase comes as \u201cthe airline industry seeks new technologies to reduce its carbon footprint.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Archer, the taxis \u201cwill be capable of flying 60 miles at 150 miles an hour,\u201d with United claiming that their use \u201ccould nearly halve carbon dioxide emissions for passengers traveling from Hollywood to Los Angeles International Airport.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Fortune, \u201c<\/span><span>Archer has lined up some big-name backers that are putting money into the new public company,\u201d including Stellantis (which owns Fiat Chrysler), the venture arm of Exor (the Agnelli family\u2019s holding company), Mubadala Capital, the Emirati soverign wealth fund, Putnam Investments, and Federated Hermes Kaufmann Funds. \u201cCollectively,\u201d the Fortune report says, \u201cthose investors are putting $600 million into the new company.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In addition, \u201cbillionaire financier Ken Moelis and Jet.com founder and former Walmart e-commerce executive Marc Lore\u201d are investing $30 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-56020650\"><span>BBC<\/span><\/a> <span>reported that Archer\u2019s flying taxis \u201cwill need regulatory approval before the purchase can go ahead,\u201d with United Airlines and Mesa Air Group having the \u201c<\/span><span>option to buy another $500m worth of aircraft under the deal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWith the right technology, we can curb the impact aircraft have on the planet, but we have to identify the next generation of companies who will make this a reality early and find ways to help them get off the ground,\u201d United Airlines chief executive Scott Kirby said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-chicago-83ce6f0925e77026c8df68622acb0735\"><span>Associated Press<\/span><\/a> <span>also reported that \u201c[in]&nbsp;<\/span><span>December, United pledged to offset all its carbon emissions by 2050 in part by investing in technology to remove carbon from the air and bury it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
