BBC News did not broadcast this news segment about a war between Russia and NATO.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The video starts in what appears to be a newsroom studio with the BBC News logo in the chyron as well as a rapidly-moving ticker. \u201cWe have breaking news of a serious incident between Russian and NATO forces near the coast of Latvia,\u201d a broadcaster says, detailing Russian aircraft allegedly being fired upon by NATO forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBritish National Emergency 20\/01\/22,\u201d reads the video\u2019s caption in part.<\/p>\n<p>The video goes on to purportedly show a live scene of Russian forces firing at NATO, before a female voice reports that the Queen and Royal Family members supposedly evacuated Buckingham Palace due to the severity of the situation. The purported broadcast is interrupted by an \u201cemergency broadcast\u201d warning several European cities of a nuclear attack. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/12\/16\/fact-check-bbc-video-games-heart-attacks-blood-clots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did BBC News Report Video Games Are Causing A Rise In Heart Attacks And Blood Clots?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, the video is not of an actual broadcast by BBC News. Through a keyword search of relevant terms, Check Your Fact found BBC News first addressed this video when it previously circulated in 2018.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This video clip claiming to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BBC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BBC<\/a> news report about NATO and Russia has been circulating widely, particularly on WhatsApp. We\u2019d like to make absolutely clear that it\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/fake?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#fake<\/a> and does not come from the BBC. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/fakenews?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#fakenews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/91lVuTlcBC\">pic.twitter.com\/91lVuTlcBC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BBC News Press Team (@BBCNewsPR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BBCNewsPR\/status\/986899650673332225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2018<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis video clip claiming to be a #BBC news report about NATO and Russia has been circulating widely, particularly on WhatsApp,\u201d a 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BBCNewsPR\/status\/986899650673332225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E986899650673332225%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reuters.com%2Farticle%2Ffactcheck-bbc-news-russia-idUSL1N2U41K4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweet<\/a> from BBC said. \u201cWe\u2019d like to make absolutely clear that it\u2019s a #fake and does not come from the BBC. #fakenews.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BBC further <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BBCNewsPR\/status\/986909979646005249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stated<\/a> that the video originated from YouTube and confirmed the original video had a \u201cfictional dramatization\u201d Disclaimer regarding the content. BBC News noted that the Disclaimer had not been repeated when it was shared.<\/p>\n<p>A reverse image search by Check Your Fact led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-3730976\/Scottish-father-reacts-fake-UK-nuclear-attack-emergency-warning-prank-video-Glasgow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daily Mail<\/a> article about the video, which was created by a YouTube user in 2016 known as \u201cBen Marking.\u201d&nbsp;Marking\u2019s videos had previously been used by others to prank their loved ones into believing a world war had begun, the outlet reported. Marking\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCA9r2NNlWMitk1hhR7yj8SA\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">channel<\/a> has since been deleted.<\/p>\n<p>BBC News has previously been the target of fake headlines and news reports.
