Is this politics as usual? Can sometimes people just give it to you the way you should get it back or shouldn\u2019t get it back?\u201d Goldberg asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope it\u2019s not politics as usual though. The former president set the bar low, right? One of the reasons why Joe Biden was elected, even though he has a history of being a loose cannon, is he was thought to restore civility to the office,\u201d guest host Lisa Ling was first to respond. \u201cIt\u2019s not like he just dismissed it as a dumb question. He name called. I just think, as a mom to young kids, these are the people who should be setting examples for our kids. And it\u2019s like, more examples of men behaving badly and mothers having to clean it up because it\u2019s giving license to kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI completely agree with you. It\u2019s sort of beneath the dignity of the presidency,\u201d Sunny Hostin agreed, but she said it was important to note that Biden had reached out to Doocy afterward. \u201cThat\u2019s something that we would have never heard the former, you know, twice impeached, disgraced president of this country do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cIt\u2019s sort of beneath the dignity of the presidency.\u201d \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheView?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheView<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sunny?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sunny<\/a> on President <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JoeBiden<\/a> calling Fox News\u2019 Peter Doocy \u201ca stupid son of a b*tch\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OBKNN6Mfwh\">pic.twitter.com\/OBKNN6Mfwh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mediaite (@Mediaite) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mediaite\/status\/1486008789312675840?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 25, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s true, but I think he should apologize to everyone,\u201d Ling continued as the hosts began to talk over each other and Joy Behar suggested that Fox News might fire Doocy for accepting Biden\u2019s apology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t you think he should apologize to \u2013\u201d Ling tried again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I don\u2019t think he should apologize to the American people,\u201d Goldberg shot back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Trump apologize for calling Jim Acosta a \u2018rude, terrible person\u2019?\u201d Behar asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoesn\u2019t mean you should double down,\u201d Sara Haines added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he should acknowledge that he was a poor example,\u201d Ling continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe should acknowledge he\u2019s human. Because that happens sometimes when people ask you endless stupid questions from one particular place and sometimes you just lose it for a second,\u201d Goldberg continued to defend Biden. \u201cThe difference is he said, \u2018Okay, let me call him and apologize\u2019 because that happens. I think that, for me, is the representation of what a human being, as president, should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt points out the difference between Biden and Trump because Trump \u2013 let us not forget \u2014 said the press is \u2018the enemy of the people.\u2019 Even Chris Wallace acknowledged that in 2019. He said, \u2018I believe that President Trump is engaged in the most direct, sustained assault on freedom of the press in our history.\u2019 So, okay \u2026 \u2018stupid SOB he says.\u2019 It\u2019s nothing to what Trump did,\u201d Behar added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree with you, but you can\u2019t keep comparing him to Trump,\u201d Ling protested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes you can!\u201d Behar shot back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re right about that, we can\u2019t keep comparing him \u2014\u201d Hostin replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are stupid questions, but he was asking about inflation, which is a real issue, and the midterm elections, which are right around the corner \u2014\u201d Ling pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a sarcastic question though, right Lisa?\u201d Hostin said. \u201cWill that be a liability? Of course it\u2019s a liability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s smart enough to know \u2013 that\u2019s what he wanted. He got what he wanted. He asked a question that wasn\u2019t worthy of him asking it,\u201d Goldberg argued, suggesting that getting an outburst from Biden had been Doocy\u2019s intent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrue, but also the president\u2019s smart enough to know he\u2019s standing in front of a lot of people with a microphone \u2013\u201d Ling objected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes, yes. That\u2019s why he didn\u2019t do it in front of everybody.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see what your point is, Lisa. I hadn\u2019t thought about it that way. I think I changed so much that the bar was lowered. I focused so much on the fact that he apologized that I kind of had forgotten this wasn\u2019t politics as usual.
