(Courtesy Alabama Legislature)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Alabama\u2019s population is about 27% black, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/AL\">latest census numbers<\/a>. Democrats praised the court\u2019s decision, which also pushed back the state\u2019s filing deadline from Jan. 28 to Feb. 11 to allow potential candidates to decide whether to run based on the new map. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/14\/ohio-supreme-court-republican-congressional-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Ohio Supreme Court Throws Out GOP-Drawn Congressional Map That Bolstered Republicans Statewide)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision is a win for Alabama\u2019s black voters, who have been denied equal representation for far too long,\u201d said former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who leads the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/24\/us\/politics\/alabama-congressional-map-redistricting.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThe map\u2019s dilution of the voting power of Alabama\u2019s black community \u2013 through the creation of just one majority-black district while splitting other black voters apart \u2013 was as evident as it was reprehensible.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/05\/cook-political-report-david-wasserman-congress-redistricting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Top House Forecaster: Republicans\u2019 Redistricting Advantage Hardly Panned Out)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republicans, however, criticized the court\u2019s decision, vowing to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Attorney General\u2019s Office strongly disagrees with the court\u2019s decision and will be appealing in the coming days,\u201d a spokesman for the office of Alabama\u2019s attorney general&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lyman_brian\/status\/1485805029701337089\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The decision comes over a week after the Ohio Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/14\/ohio-supreme-court-republican-congressional-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">threw out<\/a> its own congressional and state legislative maps, saying that the Republican-drawn lines failed to meet the standards limiting partisan gerrymandering adopted by voters in 2018.
