Doug Lamborn misused official resources and solicited and accepted inappropriate gifts from his subordinates.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators <a href=\"https:\/\/oce.house.gov\/reports\/investigations\/oce-referral-regarding-rep-doug-lamborn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> that Lamborn\u2019s staff consistently had to conduct personal errands for Lamborn and his family during work hours, while aides to the Republican said that they even had to help Lamborn\u2019s son get a job in government.<\/p>\n<p>Other staffers said they frequently had to run errands and cater to Lamborn\u2019s wife, Jeanie. \u201cIf mama ain\u2019t happy, nobody\u2019s happy,\u201d she allegedly said, according to an anonymous staffer\u2019s account to investigators.<\/p>\n<p>Following the detailed investigation, the OCE officially recommended that the House Ethics Committee look further into the allegations against Lamborn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee notes that the mere fact of conducting further review of a referral, and any mandatory disclosure of such further review, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee,\u201d Reps. Ted Deutch of Florida and Jackie Walorski of Indiana, the chair and ranking member of the committee, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/ethics.house.gov\/press-releases\/statement-chairman-and-ranking-member-committee-ethics-regarding-representative-53\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">joint statement<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/24\/marie-newman-illinois-iymen-chehade-job-primary-race-ethics-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: Democratic Rep Marie Newman Allegedly Bribed Primary Opponent To Drop Out, Ethics Investigation Finds)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the committee can report \u201csubstantial evidence of a violation of any law,\u201d it mostly operates in an advisory role. However, it can also move the case before the whole House, which could vote to impose a fine, censure or worse.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7192035\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7192035\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep. (Michael Ciaglo\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The OCE report follows a federal <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.documentcloud.org\/documents\/20707880\/lamborn-lawsuit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lawsuit<\/a> that Brandon Pope, a former Lamborn staffer, filed last spring. Pope alleged that Lamborn flouted COVID-19 precautions and created a physically unsafe environment for his staff. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/14\/staffer-sues-colorado-doug-lamborn-dangerous-approach-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018I Don\u2019t Care About You Guys Getting It\u2019: Staffer Sues Congressman For \u2018Dangerous Approach\u2019 To Pandemic)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The suit also alleged that Lamborn made his staff run errands for his family and that he let his son live in the Capitol basement.<\/p>\n<p>Cassandra Sebastian, Lamborn\u2019s communications director, <a href=\"https:\/\/lamborn.house.gov\/sites\/lamborn.house.gov\/files\/Public%20Response%20to%20Ethics%20Rep.%20Lamborn.pdf\">said<\/a> that the investigation was \u201coverzealous\u201d and that his own office was \u201cbiased\u201d against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is extremely disappointing that two disgruntled former staffers have weaponized the ethics process for political and personal purposes,\u201d Sebastian said. \u201cCongressman Lamborn intends to cooperate fully with the&nbsp;bipartisan&nbsp;House Committee on Ethics, just as he did with all reasonable requests of the OCE. He remains certain the committee will ultimately reach the appropriate decision by dismissing the OCE\u2019s referral and he expects to be fully exonerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lamborn has been in office since 2007, representing Colorado\u2019s 5th congressional district.
