In addition, she said that they \u201chave not had the time, as an administration, to put in place humane, comprehensive process for processing individuals who are coming to the border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also remarked that while there have been rare instances of people coming into the country and awaiting a court date, this will not be true for the majority of people who arrive at the border.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cNow is not the time to come and the vast majority of people will be turned away,\u201d she said, adding that \u201casylum processes at the border will not occur immediately,\u201d either.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">IMMIGRATION: Jen Psaki to those who want to cross southern border into US: \u201cNow is not the time to come and the vast majority of people will be turned away.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eiC8VOOm5Q\">pic.twitter.com\/eiC8VOOm5Q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Forbes (@Forbes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Forbes\/status\/1359582230490808324?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This response comes two days after Psaki was pressed on the Biden Administration\u2019s shift in immigration policy toward stricter deportation requirements. As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/new-biden-rules-for-ice-point-to-fewer-arrests-and-deportations-and-a-more-restrained-agency\/2021\/02\/07\/faccb854-68c6-11eb-bf81-c618c88ed605_story.html\">The Washington Post<\/a> on Monday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is preparing for a change in their usual practice.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAgents will no longer seek to deport immigrants for crimes such as driving under the influence and assault, and will focus instead on national security threats, recent border crossers and people completing prison and jail terms for aggravated felony convictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/psaki-biden-deporting-illegal-immigrants-drive-drunk\">Fox News,<\/a> Psaki answered questions from reporters on this policy, saying,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe priority for the enforcement of immigration laws will be on those who are posing a national security threat \u2026 and on recent arrivals \u2026 Nobody is saying that DUIs or assault are acceptable behavior, and those arrested for such activities should be tried and sentenced as appropriate by local law enforcement. But we\u2019re talking about the prioritization of who is going to be deported from the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While Biden issued executive orders to undo some of Trump\u2019s actions, there are still lingering practices from the previous administration in place. On February 1st, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-immigration-trump-border-policies\/\">CBS News<\/a> reported that Biden would keep some of these border policies for the time being, despite being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-immigration-biden-factbox\/factbox-here-are-six-things-joe-biden-will-likely-do-on-immigration-idUSKBN27O00R\">critical<\/a> of them during the 2020 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden administration\u2019s continuation of Trump-era border policies, even if short-lived, has left thousands of asylum-seekers stranded in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanrightsfirst.org\/sites\/default\/files\/PubliclyReportedMPPAttacks12.15.2020FINAL.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">dangerous<\/a> Mexican towns or facing swift expulsion to the countries they fled. Many are hopeful that their fortunes will change under a new U.S. administration \u2014 but it\u2019s unclear when and if that may happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last month, Biden attempted to place a moratorium on deportations for 100 days, but was sued by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
