The TikTok lobbying team includes former Louisiana senator <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/represent\/lobbying\/r\/301030740\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Breaux<\/a> (D.), a veteran legislator who served alongside Biden for more than two decades, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/represent\/lobbying\/r\/301024194\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Castagnetti<\/a>, previously a chief of staff to former Montana senator Max Baucus (D.), a Biden China adviser who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/obamas-man-in-china-now-beijings-man-in-washington\/\">frequently appears<\/a> on Chinese state media.<\/p>\n<p>The halt, first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/tiktok-sale-to-oracle-walmart-is-shelved-as-biden-reviews-security-11612958401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> by the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>,&nbsp;is a major victory for TikTok, which has also successfully batted off some of the Trump administration&#8217;s attempts to shut down its U.S. operations in the court system. In December, a federal judge &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/12\/07\/944039053\/u-s-judge-halts-trumps-tiktok-ban-the-2nd-court-to-fully-block-the-action\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overturned<\/a> a Trump executive order that would have banned the app from the U.S. market. The Justice Department appealed the case, but experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/donald-trumps-tiktok-ban-likely-just-ended-with-legal-deadline-2021-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;<em>Business Insider<\/em>&nbsp;that it is unlikely that Biden will fight hard to keep the ban.<\/p>\n<p>The reprieve granted to TikTok is the latest development in the Biden White House&#8217;s ongoing review of the Trump administration&#8217;s confrontational approach to China. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Biden&#8217;s pick for U.N. envoy, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/biden-admin-reviewing-uighur-genocide-designation-u-n-ambassador-nominee-says\/\">said<\/a> that the State Department is &#8220;reviewing&#8221; Trump&#8217;s genocide declaration for China&#8217;s brutal crackdown in Xinjiang during her confirmation hearing.
