Studies have not found a conclusive link between COVID-19 vaccines and Bell\u2019s Palsy.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The image shows what appears to be an NHS poster that was allegedly found on a street near Heathrow, England. The words, \u201cPublic Health Warning\u201d are written across the top of the poster, followed by \u201cCOVID-19 Vaccine Causes Bell\u2019s Palsy\u201d written across the bottom. The poster features an image of what appears to be a patient with Bell\u2019s Palsy.<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence that the poster comes from the NHS. Such an advertisement does not appear on the NHS <a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirusresources.phe.gov.uk\/nhs-resources-facilities\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website\u2019s<\/a> coronavirus materials page. There is likewise no record of it on the organization\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/news\/?filter-keyword=bell%27s+palsy&amp;filter-category=&amp;filter-date-from=&amp;filter-date-to=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">News<\/a>\u201d page or on its official <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=bell%27s%20palsy%20vaccine%20(from%3Anhs)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> page. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/12\/23\/fact-check-who-poster-in-this-forever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did The World Health Organization Create This Poster Stating \u2018We\u2019re In This Forever\u2019?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cavan Griffin, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), which oversees the NHS, confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact, \u201cThat\u2019s not a genuine poster and has since been removed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A reverse image search revealed the picture of the woman used in the poster traced back to the stock photo website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamy.com\/unilateral-paralysis-of-the-face-in-a-14-year-old-female-patient-with-bells-palsy-this-temporary-condition-is-caused-by-inflammation-of-the-facial-n-image334803538.html?irclickid=Rn3ytdyMnxyITVrTqYWln0JtUkG3-JxVRSHISE0&amp;irgwc=1&amp;utm_source=77643&amp;utm_campaign=Shop%20Royalty%20Free%20at%20Alamy&amp;utm_medium=impact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alamy<\/a>. The website dates the picture from October 2011, far before the COVID-19 pandemic, and makes no reference to vaccines in the description.<\/p>\n<p>Bell\u2019s Palsy is a condition caused by facial nerve damage, leading to weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/conditions-and-diseases\/bells-palsy#:~:text=Bell&#039;s%20palsy%20is%20an%20unexplained,strike%20anyone%20at%20any%20age.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Hopkins Medicine<\/a>. The condition can begin suddenly and worsen over 48 hours and can occur in people with an upper respiratory ailment.<\/p>\n<p>Moderna and Pfizer each found four reported cases of Bell\u2019s Palsy in their respective clinical vaccine trials&nbsp;in December 2020, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/12\/15\/fda-staff-recommends-watching-for-bells-palsy-in-moderna-and-pfizer-vaccine-recipients.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC.<\/a> Currently, available information is deemed \u201cinsufficient to determine a causal relationship\u201d from the vaccine. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/covid-19\/clinical-considerations\/covid-19-vaccines-us.html#Patient-counseling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> (CDC) also says current data is insufficient to make a conclusion and encourages those with a history of Bell\u2019s Palsy to receive the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/laninf\/article\/PIIS1473-3099(21)00467-9\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">study<\/a> published in the Lancet medical journal in January 2022, titled \u201cThe association between COVID-19 vaccination and Bell\u2019s palsy,\u201d found no definitive evidence or clear link between COVID-19 vaccines and the condition.
