The FBI\u2019s primary focus throughout the investigation was to bring justice to Gabby and her family. The public\u2019s role in helping us in this endeavor was invaluable as the investigation was covered in the media around the world.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a timeline of the investigation from the FBI\u2019s Denver Field Office, the FBI said that after Petito had died, \u201cthere were&nbsp;several&nbsp;text messages identified between Mr. Laundrie\u2019s telephone and Ms. Petito\u2019s telephone. The timing and content of these messages are indicative of Mr. Laundrie attempting to deceive law enforcement by giving the impression that Ms. Petito was still alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FBIDenver?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FBIDenver<\/a> issues a final investigative update on the Gabrielle Petito Case.  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/44SiImlo6C\">https:\/\/t.co\/44SiImlo6C<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IygdHuIWbv\">pic.twitter.com\/IygdHuIWbv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FBI Denver (@FBIDenver) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FBIDenver\/status\/1484621114663862278?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Richard Stafford, who is an attorney for Petito\u2019s family, expressed his thanks to the agency and indicated his confidence in the FBI\u2019s conclusions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The <em>New York&nbsp;Post<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/21\/brian-laundrie-admitted-to-killing-gabby-petito-in-notebook-entry-fbi\/\">outlined<\/a> the tragic story. \u201cPetito disappeared over the summer while on a cross-country journey with Laundrie and was reported missing on September 11.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After an intense search for the missing young woman, a body was discovered a week later at a campground in Wyoming. It was Gabby Petito\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue said the initial determination of&nbsp;Petito\u2019s body is that her death was a homicide,\u201d Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2021\/09\/21\/coroner-body-found-in-wyoming-park-is-gabby-petito-died-by-homicide\/\">reported<\/a> September 21.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Laundrie, 23, returned to his parents\u2019 North Port, Fla., home without her, he quickly became the sole person of interest in the case before he disappeared, too. A massive manhunt for him followed, until his remains were found at a nearby nature preserve Oct. 20,\u201d the <em>Post <\/em>continued in its review of the events surrounding Petito\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Laundrie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2021\/11\/23\/autopsy-brian-laundrie-died-of-gunshot-wound-to-his-head\/\">died<\/a> of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, a lawyer for the family said in November.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the notebook in which Laundrie wrote his admission of guilt for the murder of Petito, his girlfriend, the FBI said law enforcement officials also found a revolver and a backpack near his remains. The FBI did not reveal the exact words in Laundrie\u2019s noteboook.<\/p>\n<p>In its timeline of the investigation, the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/contact-us\/field-offices\/denver\/news\/press-releases\/fbi-denver-provides-final-investigative-update-on-gabrielle-petito-case\">included<\/a>, among other facts, the following details:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Upon further search of the area, investigators found human remains later confirmed to be Mr. Laundrie, along with a backpack, notebook, and a revolver. A review of the notebook revealed written statements by Mr. Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms. Petito\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>On November 23, 2021, the District 12 Medical Examiner\u2019s Office in Sarasota, Florida, released its report on the manner and cause of death of Mr. Laundrie.
