Tolkien\u2019s legendary fantasy trilogy \u201cThe Lord of the Rings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Writing under the heading, \u201cOne Shot To Rule Them All,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2022-01-20\/a-covid-vaccine-for-all-the-variants-is-possible?sref=Yg3sQEZ2&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&amp;utm_content=business\">Bloomberg<\/a> editor Mark Gongloff summarized an opinion piece on the site that described the possibility of a vaccine that would not just protect against all current and future variants of COVID-19, but also the SARS, MERS, and other viruses in the same family. That summary was posted in Thursday\u2019s edition of \u201cBloomberg Opinion Today,\u201d the site\u2019s opinion roundup newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg tweeted out the article early Friday morning. \u201cOne Covid shot to rule them all, one Covid shot to find them, one Covid shot to bring them all and in the darkness bind them,\u201d read the Twitter tagline for the article.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">One Covid shot to rule them all, one Covid shot to find them, one Covid shot to bring them all and in the darkness bind them <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ITl9ECG0Vx\">https:\/\/t.co\/ITl9ECG0Vx<\/a> via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bopinion?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@bopinion<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bloomberg (@business) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/business\/status\/1484406016171298816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>That line is a reference to the One Ring, the legendary artifact which is central to the plot of \u201cThe Lord of the Rings\u201d trilogy of books, movies, and upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/press.amazonstudios.com\/us\/en\/original-series\/the-lord-of-the-rings-amazon-original-series\/1\">Amazon Prime series<\/a>. Unfortunately, Bloomberg seemed to have overlooked the fact that in the story, the Ring is an object of evil, which the story\u2019s antagonist, the Dark Lord Sauron, wants to use to take over the fictional world of Middle-Earth. In particular, the line used by Bloomberg is part of a poem used within the story to describe the Ring. It refers to the fact that the ring exists to bind the people of the world under his power through the One Ring:<\/p>\n<p><em>Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,<\/em><br \/><em>Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,<\/em><br \/><em>Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,<\/em><br \/><em>One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne<\/em><br \/><em>In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.<\/em><br \/><em>One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,<\/em><br \/><em>One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them<\/em><br \/><em>In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Twitter users were quick to point out the oversight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour idea of a vaccine endorsement is to analogize the COVID-19 vaccine to an evil ring forged by a demonic power so he could conquer and control the world through death and destruction?
