to having a single family home in a safe and pleasant suburban neighborhood, activists are taking legal action to force density by inserting multi-unit housing in San Francisco, California.<\/p>\n<p>The legal arm of a group favoring housing density filed suit claiming city officials violated laws by halting the construction of a 469-unit housing project in a tower near Sixth and Market streets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201chousing advocacy\u201d group is named to mock the Not in My Backyard movement, which has roots <a href=\"https:\/\/planningtank.com\/urbanisation\/nimby-not-in-my-backyard\">dating back<\/a> to at least the 1980s when homeowners advocated for having a say in the fate of their neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The <em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/bayarea\/article\/Housing-advocacy-group-sues-S-F-over-supes-16792753.php?sid=5d54065e91d15c7b08162233&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=headlines&amp;utm_campaign=sfc_morningfix\">reported<\/a> on Yes in My Backyard \u2014 or YIMBY\u2019s \u2014 lawsuit:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The 19-page lawsuit, filed in San Francisco County Superior Court, alleges San Francisco officials violated a number of laws \u2014 such as the California Environmental Quality Act, the Housing Accountability Act, the Housing Crisis Act of 2019, and the Permit Streamlining Act \u2014 when the Board of Supervisors rejected the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/sf\/article\/Why-did-S-F-supervisors-vote-against-a-project-16569809.php#photo-21637342\">469 Stevenson housing project<\/a> \u201cafter four years of planning and approval by the Planning Department, based on vague claims of \u2018inadequate analysis\u2019 in the CEQA review rather than on documented findings as required by law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>YIMBY Law also filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles, citing similar alleged violations of housing laws.The organization previously filed a separate lawsuit against San Francisco in connection with a housing project located at 450 O\u2019Farrell in 2021, when the Board of Supervisors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/bayarea\/article\/S-F-supes-say-no-to-316-micro-homes-in-16512303.php\">rejected a home development<\/a> at that location.<\/p>\n<p>Sonja Trauss, the executive director of YIMBY Law said in a statement that the organization is \u201cdetermined to see that local jurisdictions implement the laws we worked so hard to help pass.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s filing is the third in a series against San Francisco and Los Angeles,\u201d Trauss said. \u201cIt\u2019s time for accountability; there will be
