The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/amys-kitchen-voluntarily-issues-allergy-alert-undeclared-milk-single-lot-vegan-organic-rice-mac\">released<\/a> a notice on Thursday announcing that Amy\u2019s Kitchen had voluntarily issued an allergy alert on a single batch of Vegan Organic Rice Mac &amp; Cheeze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmy\u2019s Kitchen is initiating a voluntary Class I recall of Lot 60J0421 of the Vegan Organic Rice Mac &amp; Cheeze due to the potential of having trace amounts of milk, which is not declared on the product label. The company is recalling this single lot out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of consumers who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk.&nbsp; Such consumers should not eat Lot 60J0421 of the Vegan Organic Rice Mac &amp; Cheeze to avoid the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction,\u201d the FDA\u2019s announcement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmy\u2019s is working with its retail and distribution customers nationwide to ensure that any remaining inventory of the impacted lot of the Vegan Organic Rice Mac &amp; Cheeze is removed from distribution. No other Amy\u2019s Kitchen products are impacted,\u201d the FDA continued.<\/p>\n<p>The trace amount of milk protein were discovered by a third-party laboratory and prompted Amy\u2019s to immediately contact the FDA to issue the warning. The recall applies to 15,626 cases of the company\u2019s Vegan Organic Rice Mac &amp; Cheeze.<\/p>\n<p>Product review website BGR <a href=\"https:\/\/bgr.com\/lifestyle\/mac-cheese-recall-affects-nearly-200000-boxes-so-check-your-home-now\/\">noted<\/a> that \u201cMilk&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bgr.com\/lifestyle\/popular-weight-loss-supplement-sold-nationwide-was-been-recalled\/\">allergies<\/a>&nbsp;are more common in children, but some people remain allergic after childhood. Reactions to any allergen can be deadly if the allergy is severe enough,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/milk-allergy\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20375101\">milk included<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeparately, milk or lactose-intolerant people can develop digestive symptoms after eating the product from the recall,\u201d the outlet added.<\/p>\n<p>The Spruce Eats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespruceeats.com\/why-do-vegans-avoid-dairy-3974678#:~:text=A%20Vegan%20Diet%20and%20Dairy,or%20direct%20from%20a%20farm.&amp;text=Even%20though%20the%20animal%20is,steroid%20use%20and%20forced%20impregnation.\">explains<\/a> that, because \u201cmilk is derived from cows, milk is a no-go for vegans, even if it\u2019s organic or direct from a farm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reasons for not drinking milk are, in fact, quite similar to the reasons people choose to become vegetarian: animal rights and welfare, environmental reasons, and health concerns. Even though the animal is alive when it is milked, vegans cite that there is poor treatment of dairy cows, including steroid use and forced impregnation.
