I didn&#8217;t know that because it&#8217;s nonsense that someone on the internet made up. Cracker barrels were literally barrels full of crackers. It tells the story of its founding, adding that Cracker Barrel\u2019s founder, Dan Evins, originally wanted the restaurant to represent \u201cold country stores from his childhood.\u201d Since crackers used to be transported to these stores in barrels, the site explains that people used to spend time around these barrels to have conversations, noting that \u201c\u2026they were the original water coolers.\u201d The founder decided that \u201cCracker Barrel\u201d would be the perfect name for a restaurant whose purpose was to provide a place where people could \u201creconnect with friends and family over a good meal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Connections of racism to the Southern food chain have since been debunked from various sites, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2021\/feb\/09\/facebook-posts\/social-media-posts-wrong-about-origin-cracker-barr\/\">Politifact,<\/a> which noted that Facebook had even flagged the post as part of its efforts to cut down on false information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a baseless rumor,\u201d Politifact said. \u201cThe barrels depicted in the logo were for storing soda crackers sold in general stores. That\u2019s the origin of the name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement provided to <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/news\/cracker-barrel-logo-whip-name-meaning-history\/\">Heavy<\/a>, Cracker Barrel responded to the story, noting that the logo \u201cdoes not depict and has never depicted a whip,\u201d but rather the \u201cflourish\u201d discussed on social media is a calligraphy style used in \u201cmany brands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company added that it \u201crejects racism and discrimination in any form,\u201d and went on to say the connection of Cracker Barrel to those ideas \u201cis deeply upsetting because it contrasts so sharply with our values and our team\u2019s work to create a culture of hospitality that\u2019s welcoming, respectful and inclusive to everyone who walks through our doors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant chain referred Heavy to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crackerbarrel.com\/Diversity-and-Inclusion\">Diversity and Inclusion<\/a> page of its website, which reads,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA Cracker Barrel dining room is a place where old and young, black and white, wealthy and struggling, liberal and conservative, gay and straight, and everyone in between can come together and feel at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
