Phil Murphy (D) issued an order&nbsp;Wednesday mandating healthcare workers be fully vaccinated and receive a booster or face being fired, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/news\/coronavirus\/2022\/01\/19\/governor-murphy-today-mandate-covid-booster-nj-health-care-workers\/6578722001\/\">NorthJersey.com<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/d31hzlhk6di2h5.cloudfront.net\/20220119\/3e\/ed\/04\/e2\/8502449ca1afe6e7bf7f6e2d\/EO-283.pdf\">order<\/a> removes the state\u2019s previous option for unvaccinated workers to test regularly for the coronavirus instead of getting vaccinated. Medical exemptions and exemptions for \u201cdeeply held\u201d religious beliefs will still be granted, Murphy said. George Gresham, president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East told the publication he supports the order and believes \u201cuniversal vaccination\u201d is the best way to \u201creturn to normalcy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThis includes ensuring that everyone has the maximum protection against the virus and its potentially devastating effects, and we have long supported vaccinations and boosters according to established science,\u201d Gresham said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Debbie White, a nurse and president of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees union, had the opposite reaction and worries the mandate will increase the state\u2019s doctor and nurse shortage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe are in the middle of an enormous surge in our hospitals and many health care workers are sick,\u201d White said. \u201cEvery health care facility in New Jersey is faced with the challenge of finding enough staff to provide care.
