The Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), a U.S. Congressional entity made up of senators and congressmen from both parties, requested last week the IOC explain its relationship with both companies and if it had reason to believe the products it was purchasing from the companies were or were not made by slaves.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The use of companies with ties to Chinese government-sponsored slavery is one of several grave human rights complications stemming from the IOC deciding to grant Beijing the honor of hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics. Human rights activists and victims of Chinese communism have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/01\/05\/protesters-outside-of-nbc-studios-demand-network-sponsors-drop-genocide-olympics\/\">calling<\/a> for over a year for the IOC to relocate the event \u2013 or for countries to boycott it if the IOC does not \u2013 arguing that giving Beijing hosting duties is a form of support for its genocide of the Uyghur people, its cultural genocides in Tibet and Mongolia, the repression of religious minorities, and the violent crackdown on pro-democracy voices in Hong Kong. More recently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2022\/01\/19\/china-claims-raging-coronavirus-outbreak-will-magically-end-before-olympics\/\">worsening<\/a> Chinese coronavirus crisis in the country, particularly in Beijing, has surfaced as a critical threat to the health and safety of athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Olympians will face other formidable threats like the potential Chinese government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/01\/18\/mandatory-olympic-athlete-app-gives-china-data-goldmine\/\">espionage<\/a> through the mandated use of a mobile phone application for all participants in the Games; potential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/01\/18\/athletes-warned-steroids-in-meat-at-genocide-games-may-yield-positive-doping-test\/\">exposure<\/a> to steroids in Chinese animal meat; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/01\/19\/beijing-genocide-games-official-says-athletes-will-be-punished-for-criticizing-china\/\">threats<\/a> by Chinese officials that athletes with opinions the regime deems incorrect could face unspecified punishments.<\/p>\n<p>The IOC on Wednesday only addressed concerns that uniforms and branded products made by Chinese companies would be tainted with slave labor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_19534234\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/01\/wi\/ap\/18\/indonesia-china-protest-student-activists-wear-masks-colors-of-pro-independence-east-turkistan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19534234 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/indonesia-china-protest-student-activists-wear-masks-colors-of-pro-independence-east-turkistan-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Associated Press\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Student activists wear masks with the colors of the pro-independence East Turkistan flag during a rally to protest the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, outside the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, Friday, Jan. 14, 2022. This includes Hengyuanxiang Group (HYX Group) and Anta Sports,\u201d the institution <a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/ioc\/news\/ioc-conducts-third-party-due-diligence-on-its-suppliers-for-olympic-winter-games-beijing-2022\">explained<\/a> in a statement. (Courtesy U.S. Tibet Committee\/Allied Orgs)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThese audits are conducted by independent third-party audit and monitoring firms with in-depth knowledge of the markets in which key IOC products are manufactured,\u201d the IOC added, \u201c[They] assess the root causes of non-compliance and have a stronger focus on meaningful engagement with workers on their working conditions. The audit teams always interact with workers in their own languages and away from management.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The IOC asserted that the audits did not find any evidence of slavery, but did find \u201cnon-compliance\u201d in the field of \u201cworking hours and wages.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe did not find any extreme violations against our IOC Supplier Code, including no forced, bonded, indentured or child labour,\u201d the committee affirmed. \u201cNon-compliances found, including on health and safety, working hours and wages have been identified and are being remediated as part of our agreed Corrective Action Plans (CAP) with each supplier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The most severe violations, according to the IOC, occurred in the field of&nbsp;\u201chealth and safety,\u201d followed by \u201cwages, benefits, and terms of employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Olympics leaders also specifically addressed concerns the products the Chinese companies were tasked with producing were made out of cotton from Xinjiang, or East Turkistan, the region that is home to the Uyghur people and where China stands accused of enslaving Uyghurs in its cotton fields.&nbsp;A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2020\/12\/15\/study-china-using-poverty-alleviation-apps-to-force-half-a-million-uyghurs-to-pick-cotton\/\">study<\/a> published in 2020 by the Center for Global Policy found that the Chinese Communist Party was using \u201cpoverty alleviation\u201d mobile applications to sell as many as half a million Uyghur slaves to companies specifically to be used for work in cotton fields. About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2020\/07\/23\/china-infiltrating-global-fashion-industry-slave-cotton\/\">84 percent<\/a> of cotton produced in China comes from Xinjiang.<\/p>\n<p>The IOC stated that the uniforms purchased from Anta Sports contained no cotton whatsoever, while the products from HYX Group used cotton sourced from outside of China.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns over the deals the IOC cut with the companies to supply products for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics stem from both companies sourcing cotton from Xinjiang.
