Granholm sold shares of rideshare company Uber, real estate company Redfin, and biopharmaceutical firm Gilead Sciences Inc. Gilead Sciences has a hefty government&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contract<\/a>, and they also developed remdesivir, a treatment for the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, Granholm\u2019s disclosure of the trades to the Office of Government Ethics did not comply with the STOCK Act.<\/p>\n<p>The STOCK Act requires executive branch officials to disclose their trades within 30 days of the transaction. However, Granholm reportedly took weeks or months to disclose her trades.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, Granholm called out Republicans for their alleged lack of transparency in the past. \u201cConduct the people\u2019s business in the OPEN. Where\u2019s the transparency you campaigned on @realDonaldTrump?\u201d she&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JenGranholm\/status\/852952437975523328\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;about former President Donald Trump in 2017.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why hide names of visitors? Where&#8217;s the transparency you campaigned on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@realDonaldTrump<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jennifer Granholm (@JenGranholm) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JenGranholm\/status\/852952437975523328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 14, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Congress passed the STOCK Act in 2012 after Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer released<em>&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Throw-Them-All-Peter-Schweizer\/dp\/0547573146\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1333541848&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Throw Them All Out<\/a>,<\/em> which exposed corruption among political officials.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Department of Energy declined to explain why the secretary\u2019s disclosures were late but said her financial holdings \u201care in compliance with the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although violations of the STOCK Act generally come with a $200 fine,<em> Business Insider<\/em> reported it is \u201cunclear whether Granholm has paid any penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Obama-era Ethics director Walter Shaub criticized Granholm for claiming not to know of the stock trades. \u201cShe\u2019s saying that she only just learned of the transactions \u2026 so it\u2019s possible the ethics officials took that statement at face value,<strong>\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong>Shaub&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/biden-administration-energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm-stock-act-violator-2022-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Granholm was the subject of recent controversy after promoting Proterra, an electric vehicle company. She sat on the board of Proterra and held over a million dollars worth of company stock before selling her shares.
