Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday that his wife, First Lady Casey DeSantis, has completed her final chemotherapy treatment and is \u201cdoing well\u201d in her battle against breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis shared the news during remarks on workforce development at a press conference at South Florida State College in Bowling Green.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to let everybody know the First Lady, yesterday, we completed the final chemotherapy treatment that she has to do,\u201d the governor said to applause on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RonDeSantisFL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RonDeSantisFL<\/a> announces wife Casey DeSantis has completed her final chemotherapy treatment and is &#8220;doing well&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer works. We think she\u2019s responded very well. She\u2019s still got more stuff to do, but that\u2019s a big milestone because it\u2019s nasty stuff when they\u2019re doing that,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to let everyone know she got through that, she ran that gauntlet, she\u2019s doing well, and we look forward to continue to have good news over the ensuing weeks and months,\u201d DeSantis added.<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s first lady has continued to receive support and prayers from many since her breast cancer diagnosis was first announced on October 4.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Republican Rep. Carlos Gimenez responded to the news on Twitter with encouraging words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFantastic news that First Lady Casey DeSantis has completed her final round of chemotherapy!\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer and Governor DeSantis have continued to lead our state by example, even in the face of personal difficulty. Gimenez (@RepCarlos) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepCarlos\/status\/1484198555317329923?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 20, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>DeSantis was criticized last month by Democrats for allegedly taking \u201ctime off\u201d during the same time he was with his wife at her cancer treatment. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desantis-accompanied-his-wife-to-cancer-treatment-democrats-mocked-him-for-being-missing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<p><em>While DeSantis\u2019 public schedule has been light in the last couple weeks of the year, the Florida governor has not gone on vacation, staying busy in less publicized work such as staff meetings. On Wednesday, however, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings set off a torrent of criticism of DeSantis by suggesting that the governor had abandoned Florida to a recent variant of the coronavirus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur residents, all Florida residents should be outraged, and they should ask the question, \u2018Now, where\u2019s our state? Where\u2019s our governor?\u2019\u201d Demings said. \u201cWhere is Ron DeSantis now?
