(Photo by SERGIO FLORES\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">The&nbsp;founding president and CEO of Voto Latino,&nbsp;Maria Teresa Kumar, admitted to <em>Politico<\/em>,&nbsp;\u201cIntellectually, Democrats know they have a problem.&nbsp;But I haven\u2019t seen the investment that needs to happen for it to translate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\"><em>Politico<\/em> explained:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Latinos \u2014 the largest of the nation\u2019s fastest-growing demographic groups \u2014 have long been viewed as solidly blue Democratic voters. While President Joe Biden captured the majority of the Latino vote in 2020, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/11\/21\/culture-wars-latinos-trump-438932\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">improved<\/a> his margins in 78 of the nation\u2019s 100 majority-Hispanic counties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Since then, a spate of reports, analyses and polls have made it clear that the party has reason to worry if it doesn\u2019t change its current approach. A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/12\/14\/latino-voters-2020-election-524190\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> by Democratic research firm Equis found that a majority of Latinos believe that Democrats take them for granted. It also found that Trump\u2019s policies on the coronavirus pandemic and economy were popular among Latinos and that GOP attacks claiming Democrats embrace socialism have been effective.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">An analysis of the Democrat voter data from&nbsp;Catalist <a href=\"https:\/\/catalist.us\/wh-national\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a> that in 2020, Trump increased his 2016 gains with the Latino voters in 2016 by eight percent, even though the final data showed that six out of ten&nbsp;Latino voters backed President Joe Biden.&nbsp;Kumar noted that&nbsp;Florida is an&nbsp;example of Democrats having \u201ca deficit in communications and connection,\u201d since the Sunshine State is where&nbsp;Trump saw his most significant gains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">\u201cTrump and the Republican Party never left Florida. They kept cultivating and communicating with the Latino community,\u201d Kumar said. \u201cSure, a lot of it was disinformation and messaging that Biden is a communist and a socialist, but they kept doing it \u2014 and it was effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Another Democratic strategist and a former senior adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019s (I-VT) presidential campaign, Chuck Rocha said that part of the party\u2019s problems are due to Latinos not being in prominent positions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">\u201cWhen there are no people of color at the decision-making level of a campaign, our constituency becomes an afterthought and you underperform because you\u2019re not reaching out to them with the same priority as white suburban \u2018persuadable\u2019 voters,\u201d&nbsp;Rocha said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">He also noted that there were only&nbsp;campaign ads in Spanish during the last 30 days of the campaign cycle, which gave the impression that&nbsp;Latinos were not a priority to candidates after the voters had already formed opinions on candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">As a result of this,&nbsp;Kristian Ramos, campaign manager for Way to Win\u2019s midterm message research project and a Latino outreach specialist told <em>Politico<\/em> that the&nbsp;concern is not that \u201csuddenly Latinos are going to become Republicans,\u201d but, instead, that support for Democrats is \u201csoft.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
