Ron DeSantis of Florida. For months now, Trump\u2019s been playing the aging silent film star Norma Desmond in \u201cSunset Boulevard\u201d to DeSantis\u2019 younger, prettier Betty Schaefer.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the hourly, annoying group emails to Trump\u2019s list \u2014 \u201cYOU are one of my TOP supporters!\u201d \u2014 there was one from Roger Stone on November 2, 2021, denouncing DeSantis.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The insults sounded a lot like what Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2015\/08\/08\/politics\/donald-trump-campaign-roger-stone\/index.html\">used to say about Stone<\/a>: \u201cRon\u2019s own piss-poor campaign \u2026,\u201d \u201cwithout really delivering on his Trump-like rhetoric \u2026,\u201d \u201cGovernor DeSantis has failed \u2026\u201d and so on.<\/p>\n<p>The title of this diatribe was: \u201cWILL RON DESANTIS TAKE THE PLEDGE?\u201d Can you guess what \u201cthe pledge\u201d is? That is correct: not to challenge Trump for president in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Only because it was \u201cfrom\u201d Stone, a smart guy who sadly prostrated himself on the altar of Trump, did I open it. Then, I shook my head and deleted it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Evidently, others on the Trump email list responded with more rancor.<\/p>\n<p>One week later, Stone sent out a follow-up email frantically backpedaling, noting that \u201cmany\u201d recipients of his recent email were \u201csurprised\u201d by his attacks on DeSantis. The crow-eating letter ended by pleading with Stone\u2019s critics to \u201cPlease take a moment to read what I have actually said \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That must\u2019ve been some blowback!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19555930\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19555930\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP19164651320187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1276\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Florida Gov. He\u2019s fading faster than Sarah Palin did \u2014 and she was second place on a losing presidential ticket. In case you don\u2019t remember, for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/28\/us\/politics\/28nevadaweb.html\">three years<\/a>&nbsp;following that loss, Palin was packing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2010\/09\/11\/beck-palin-draw-divergent-crowds-at-alaska-event\/\">stadiums<\/a>&nbsp;with tens of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2010\/04\/07\/palin-rally\">thousands<\/a>&nbsp;of Trump-like fans.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>But by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/id\/wbna42632497\">2011<\/a>, even she \u2014 a far smarter politician than Trump who did&nbsp;<em>not<\/em>&nbsp;spend her time whining about the last election, wallowing in self-pity, or endorsing candidates because they once said something nice about her golf course \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lowellsun.com\/2011\/09\/06\/palin-stop-a-call-to-action-for-tea-party\/\">had<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2011\/07\/-sarah-palin-movie-debuts-to-empty-theater-in-orange-county\/241983\/\">faded<\/a>. She was fun, but Republicans were starting to think seriously about the 2012 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is already two years ahead of Palin\u2019s fade-out schedule. After his petulant endorsements this year deliver loss after loss in midterm elections that ought to be a blowout landslide for the GOP, he\u2019ll be as popular as former Missouri Rep.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/anncoulter.com\/2012\/08\/22\/missouri-the-show-me-another-g-o-p-candidate-statexx\/\">Todd Akin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>As many Republicans will bitterly recall, Trump has already&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/anncoulter.com\/2021\/01\/06\/the-election-is-over-heres-the-truth-about-trumpxxx\/\">lost two Senate seats<\/a>&nbsp;for Republicans in the 2021 Georgia runoffs. So far this year, he\u2019s on track to lose \u2014 at least \u2014 another&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/sports\/2021\/09\/trump-endorses-herschel-walker-who-once-played-for-his-nj-generals-for-georgia-senate-seat.html\">Senate race<\/a>&nbsp;in Georgia, as well as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/think\/opinion\/trump-helps-stacey-abrams-georgia-democrats-backing-perdue-over-kemp-ncna1285557\">governor\u2019s mansion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, thousands of people show up to his heavily advertised rallies, but they\u2019re all the exact same people. His die-hard fans \u2014 or, as he calls them, \u201cfuture Trump University students\u201d \u2014 are like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dustyoldthing.com\/historic-deadhead-photos\/\">Deadheads<\/a>, following him from venue to venue, dressing up in wild&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/01\/17\/trump-rally-arizona-2024-527253\">costumes<\/a>&nbsp;and listening to the same songs.<\/p>\n<p>Some conservatives who would never again vote for Trump wear MAGA hats, but that\u2019s just an identity badge, like liberals wearing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/may\/10\/the-people-who-want-to-keep-masking-its-like-an-invisibility-cloak\">masks<\/a>. Trump happens to be the last Republican president, and the media lose their minds over him. Wearing a \u201cTrump\u201d hat is the most efficient way to say, \u201cScrew you, media.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>This is why the media\u2019s neurotic fixation on Trump is baffling to normal people. (AP Photo\/Patrick Semansky)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It turns out the media are using a sleight of hand to claim that Trump is popular with Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Nate Silver\u2019s respected website fivethirtyeight recently <a href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/live-blog\/reflections-on-the-jan-6-insurrection\/#323253\">announced<\/a>:&nbsp;\u201cRepublicans remain loyal to Trump even after Jan. 6 attack,\u201d&nbsp;citing a poll that shows Trump\u2019s approval among Republicans at nearly 80 percent.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s a lot more to the story.&nbsp;The <a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25\">poll<\/a>&nbsp;allows readers to view Trump\u2019s approval not only among all voters (-14 percent) but among specific subgroups of all voters: men, women, Blacks, Hispanics, and whites, as well as any combination of these demographic subgroups. And get this: Trump doesn\u2019t have as much as 25 percent net approval among any subgroup \u2014 other than \u201cRepublicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;gender=Female\">Females<\/a>&nbsp;have a negative 24 percent net favorable opinion of Trump. OK, fine, women don\u2019t like him. Show me \u201cmen.\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;gender=Male\">Men<\/a>&nbsp;have a negative 3 percent net favorable opinion of Trump. That\u2019s pretty much a full set. Who\u2019s left?<\/p>\n<p>I tried whites \u2014 the base of the Republican Party (and the demographic that decides every election, despite the unshakable beliefs of GOP donors).&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;race=White\">Whites<\/a>&nbsp;have a meager 4 percent net favorable opinion of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re running out of demographics that might like Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it was that massive Hispanic vote for Trump that I\u2019ve been hearing so much about!&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;race=Hispanic%2FLatino\">Hispanics<\/a>: negative 44 percent net favorable for Trump.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;race=Black%20or%20African-American\">Blacks<\/a>? Negative 85 percent net favorable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;race=White&amp;gender=Male\">White men<\/a>? Fourteen percent net favorable opinion of Trump. (That\u2019s not even going to win you Alabama, Republicans.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;education=Non-College%20Graduate\">Non-college graduates<\/a>?&nbsp;<em>Negative<\/em>&nbsp;12 percent net favorable.<\/p>\n<p>How about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;education=Non-College%20Graduate&amp;gender=Male&amp;race=White\">non-college-educated white men<\/a>? The beating heart of the Trump base is only 23 percent net favorable toward Trump.<\/p>\n<p>So how is it possible that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/civiqs.com\/results\/trump_favorable?uncertainty=true&amp;annotations=true&amp;zoomIn=true&amp;net=true&amp;startDate=2019%2F12%2F25&amp;endDate=2021%2F12%2F25&amp;party=Republican\">77 percent<\/a> of \u201cRepublicans\u201d&nbsp;\u2014 net \u2014 have a favorable opinion of Trump? There\u2019s no other subgroup of the electorate that has even a third of that.<\/p>\n<p>The only explanation is that an awful lot of Republicans are now calling themselves \u201cIndependents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huh. Why might that be?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it\u2019s because, day in, day out, the media tell us that the&nbsp;GOP is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/republicans-urge-ron-desantis-respect-donald-trump-his-party-2024-1670613\">the Party of Trump<\/a>\u201d! Apparently, this has led a lot of Republicans to conclude that they must not be Republicans, after all. (At least, among the Republicans contacted by these pollsters. I assume they didn\u2019t have any respondents in Florida, where \u201cRepublican\u201d has a much more favorable&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flchamber.com\/new-florida-chamber-statewide-poll-shows-governor-ron-desantis-with-strong-job-approval-ratings\/\">connotation<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the media\u2019s lies, the only people calling themselves \u201cRepublicans\u201d these days are the Trump die-hards. In other words, the blockbuster conclusion of this poll is:&nbsp;<em>Trump die-hards like Trump!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yes \u2014 and they\u2019re the only ones who do. While Trump fanatics are indeed fanatical, everyone else is sick and tired of his nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>Give voters a populist conservative who\u2019s not a conman and a liar and they\u2019ll be \u201cRepublicans\u201d again.
