The curriculum is not exclusive to teachers or high school students, it\u2019s being taught to America\u2019s most impressionable individuals as well: elementary and middle school students.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Parents have also noticed that Black<\/span> <em><span>History<\/span><\/em> <span>Month curriculum is no longer exclusive to history classes, either.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Feb. 5, students at a middle school in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) were taught about Black History Month and the important role Black Lives Matter plays in the racial justice movement at the end of science class. In a screenshot of the curriculum obtained by The Daily Wire, students were asked to read about the impact of Black Lives Matter, watch a young black poet speak at Joe Biden\u2019s inauguration, and discuss issues of racism that \u201ccontinue to plague [the] school.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBLM\u2019s mission is to get rid of white supremacy and come together to fight and end the violence against Black communities,\u201d the slide reads. \u201cMany peaceful protests took place in May and June of 2020. Media broadcasted the riots and the looting instead of the peaceful fight towards equality.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The slide explained to students how words have an impact on people\u2019s perception of a movement. It insinuated that when the Black Lives Matter movement was portrayed as a bunch of rioters and looters, those words hurt the group\u2019s ability to effectively message.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_188486\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-188486\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-188486\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Impact-of-Words-on-BLM-300x180.jpg\" alt width=\"600\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-188486\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Impact of Words on BLM lesson taught at San Ramon Valley Unified School District.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>After reading the slide and watching the video, students were forced to sign a form acknowledging that \u201c#WordsMatter.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The #WordsMatter campaign is a left-wing activist slogan initially aimed at stopping people from using the words \u201cillegal immigrant\u201d to describe an immigrant who has illegally crossed the border. Activists prefer the term \u201cundocumented.\u201d The campaign has since morphed into the broader idea that the \u201cwrong\u201d words, regardless of whether they have malicious intent and regardless of context, can be harmful to racial justice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For example, if a student vocalizes support for Donald Trump, they could face backlash because those words may be considered harmful to other students who do not support Donald Trump.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>An SRVUSD parent \u2014 who spoke to The Daily Wire on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution \u2014 said their child already understands the implications that the #WordsMatter campaign has on their ability to speak freely not only in the classroom but privately to friends.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMy child\u2019s takeaway is that if anyone finds out their parents voted for Donald Trump, they won\u2019t have any friends and they\u2019ll be ostracized,\u201d the parent said. \u201cI don\u2019t know why science teachers are promoting Black Lives Matter.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the same school district, elementary-aged students were shown a nine-minute<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xv3dAJUTCT0&amp;feature=youtu.be\"><span>video<\/span><\/a> <span>addressing police brutality and its effects on black Americans. The video describes the death of George Floyd, Treyvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Breonna Taylor, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The video features a cartoon robot and a young black woman displaying an LGBTQ flag on her jean jacket. It explains to children how racism has not improved since Civil Rights legislation was signed, it has merely gone underground and can be seen as \u201csystemic racism.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cInterpersonal racism \u2014 expressing bigoted ideas \u2014 is widely seen as unacceptable,\u201d the narrator explains. \u201cBut the protests we are seeing today aren\u2019t about that kind of thing. They\u2019re about structural racism in our society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Black Lives Matter Protests | BrainPOP\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xv3dAJUTCT0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>The narrator also used the Minneapolis City Council defunding the police as an example of success for the racial justice movement. According to the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/09\/26\/us\/politics\/minneapolis-officials-said-they-would-defund-the-police-some-now-regret-that-pledge.html\"><span>New York Times<\/span><\/a><span>, after seeing a spike in crime in Minneapolis, many of the residents and city council members said they regret defunding the police.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The video concluded with calls for children to become activists.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The concerned SRVUSD parent told The Daily Wire they found the content to be wholly unacceptable for young children to fully comprehend without being \u201cindoctrinated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHow does an elementary student have an honest, intellectual discussion about a police shooting?\u201d the parent asked. \u201cWhen you start pushing propaganda to young kids it\u2019s completely unacceptable. Especially with taxpayer money.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the last few weeks, parents told The Daily Wire they noticed an uptick in Black Lives Matter curriculum creeping into the classroom, though the movement is already in full swing among high schoolers, staff, and parents.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Local activists in northern California have been lobbying the SRVUSD since June to take a more socially radical stance. They started a \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScz05SjfVb_uXP77uPTAa-ZnyxGnm-njS8Znvx6woKaoYrarA\/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1hhakCUdBSMkxJQm_IiK3Ll6ki8vVqz8Pt_l5sFI6b-beE8qez_P_9wRA&amp;gxids=7628\"><span>Racial Justice Petition<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d calling for a district-wide review of curriculum and asking the district to reduce the \u201cdominance\u201d of white and European history.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to a full<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1T2KTCCpm1OmWwzqVOy1BdRir3M2fjN6l_PaaLY6-84s\/edit\"><span>list of demands<\/span><\/a><span>, activists are calling on the school board to take a more aggressive approach in teaching students about racism, microaggressions, and racial\/class privilege both in and out of the classroom. They also demand that the district hire more \u201cself-identified\u201d people of color so that the percentage of minority teachers is reflective of the national population.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One demand calls for the practice of \u201cformally acknowledging the Indigenous histories of the lands on which [the] schools sit.\u201d Activists want this acknowledgment to become commonplace in school board meetings and \u201cfor students of all grades.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Other demands follow the national Black Lives Matter agenda, such as the demand to divert funding for police to social workers and support systems for students of color.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The petition also calls out the SRVUSD school board for using the coronavirus pandemic as an \u201cexcuse\u201d to avoid dealing with \u201cthe crisis of American racism.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTo fulfill its own commitment, we call on the Board to devote extra time, resources, and personnel to address both crises in tandem,\u201d the petition<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScz05SjfVb_uXP77uPTAa-ZnyxGnm-njS8Znvx6woKaoYrarA\/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1hhakCUdBSMkxJQm_IiK3Ll6ki8vVqz8Pt_l5sFI6b-beE8qez_P_9wRA&amp;gxids=7628\"><span>reads<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThe district must also support and listen to students, especially students of color, as the drivers and agents of change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Parents who wish to speak up against not just activists, but the school district that is caving to activists, feel they are powerless.
