The move comes less than a year after billionaire investor and Everglades Foundation founder Paul Tudor Jones <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/group-founded-by-billionaire-biden-donor-pushes-wh-for-2-9-billion-investment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>lobbied<\/span><\/a><span> the Biden administration to commit $2.9 billion to the group&#8217;s cause. Just months before making the ask, Jones <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/individual-contributions\/?committee_id=C00703975&amp;committee_id=C00744946&amp;contributor_name=Paul+Tudor+Jones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>contributed<\/span><\/a><span> $50,000 to the Biden Victory Fund and an additional $2,800 to Biden&#8217;s campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;It&#8217;s Washington&#8217;s turn to help, with $725 million a year in matching dollars for Everglades restoration,&#8221; Jones&#8217;s foundation said in a national ad that aired shortly after Biden&#8217;s inauguration. &#8220;President Biden, let&#8217;s finish the job.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In addition to Jones&#8217;s status as a prominent Biden donor, Biden&#8217;s Interior Department <\/span><span>hired<\/span><span> the foundation&#8217;s former CEO, Shann Estenoz, to serve as its policy head for national parks. The foundation celebrated the move\u2014Estenoz&#8217;s successor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlrn.org\/news\/2021-01-20\/interior-department-names-everglades-advocate-and-keys-native-to-top-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> he was &#8220;thrilled&#8221; to see her join the administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The White House did not return a request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Biden campaign accepted Jones&#8217;s money during the 2020 election cycle despite the billionaire&#8217;s past support for disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. Jones, who served on the Weinstein Company&#8217;s board, emailed Weinstein in 2017 to console his longtime friend following allegations of sexual assault.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;I love you,&#8221; Jones <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2017\/12\/05\/us\/harvey-weinstein-complicity.html?_r=0\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> in the message. &#8220;Focus on the future as America loves a great comeback story. \u2026 The good news is, this will go away sooner than you think and it will be forgotten!&#8221;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After the email&#8217;s release, some prominent Democrats were forced to distance themselves from Jones. Arizona senator Mark Kelly (D.), for example, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2020\/09\/02\/a-celebrity-brand-how-senate-candidate-mark-kelly-made-his-millions-arizona-martha-mcsally\/5675407002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>assured reporters<\/span><\/a><span> that he did not know Jones and &#8220;of course disagrees with his comments&#8221; after the <\/span><i><span>Arizona Republic <\/span><\/i><span>highlighted a 2017 paid speech he gave to the Everglades Foundation.
