Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) said the impeachment trial for President Trump is a waste of time. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Hawley suggested the Senate has absolutely no grounds to impeach a private citizen.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2369306\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2369306\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2369306 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/dzm0ugdauank9.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/AP21040679462922-655x437.jpg\" alt width=\"655\" height=\"437\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2369306\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sen. (AP Photo\/Andrew Harnik, Pool)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>He added, according to the Constitution, a president must first be removed from office before impeachment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this thing is not going anywhere and I think our Democratic colleagues know that,\u201d Hawley stated, \u201cFrankly, I think it is a terrible, terrible waste of time in the midst of this pandemic with the crisis we have currently of getting vaccines to people and getting people back to work. We are going to shut down the entire Senate for at least a week, probably two weeks, maybe more if they call witnesses. I mean who knows how long it can go.
