However, more of that $14 billion will be spent on \u201cbolstering climate resilience\u201d and \u201cadvancing environmental justice\u201d than on ports and waterways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/01\/19\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-announces-historic-investment-to-americas-port-and-waterway-infrastructure\/\">Biden-Harris Administration Fact Sheet<\/a>\u201d provides details of where the $14 billion will end up. In 2022, the administration will focus on 500 projects across 52 states and territories, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><em>The largest single investment ever to restore and revitalize the Everglades in Florida.<\/em>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><em>Expanding capacity at some of the nation\u2019s largest and fastest-growing ports, including the Port of Long Beach.<\/em>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><em>Commitments to help underserved coastal communities build back more resilient from extreme weather.<\/em>\n<p>The fact sheet announced that the Army Corps of Engineers will spend $4 billion on strengthening supply chains that will \u201cexpand capacity at key ports, allow passage of larger vessels, and further enhance the country\u2019s ability to move goods.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the money spent on improving ports and waterways will replace locks that help cargo ships pass through places like the upper Ohio River. More than $470 million will also go toward completing construction of a new lock along the St. Mary\u2019s River in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan. Biden will also invest $8 million in the Port of Long Beach, California, to \u201csupport design work to widen the port\u2019s main channel, deepen the entrance channel, and build an approach channel and turning basin.\u201d Another $69 million will help expand capacity at Norfolk Harbor in Virginia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the $4 billion price tag for improving the nation\u2019s supply chain is a hefty amount of money, it\u2019s not as much as the Biden administration will dedicate to \u201cclimate defense\u201d and \u201cenvironmental justice.\u201d The administration announced that it will spend $5.5 billion to \u201cbetter protect communities from climate change, and protect vital ecosystems and the people and businesses throughout the country that rely on them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden and Harris point to damaging storms, such as Hurricane Ida, that show our \u201cneed\u201d to spend billions of dollars on \u201cclimate defense.\u201d \u201cDamage from extreme weather events and natural disasters, including those from Hurricane Ida, were estimated to cost the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/billions\/events.pdf\">at least $141 billion<\/a> in 2021, and is expected to increase significantly in the coming years,\u201d the fact sheet stated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What exactly does \u201cdefending the climate\u201d and advancing \u201cenvironmental justice\u201d mean? According to Biden, it means something like protecting the Everglades from rising sea levels. An estimated $1.1 billion will go toward reducing excess water impacting the Everglades and minimizing water loss during dry seasons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To advance \u201cenvironmental justice\u201d the administration will spend $163 million to restore the Cano Martin Pena urban tidal channel and surrounding areas in Puerto Rico. Another $40 million will go to the Espanola Valley, Rio Grande and Tributaries, New Mexico, \u201cto restore and protect 958 acres of aquatic and riparian habitats.\u201d And yet another $130 million will be spent for two new programs that \u201ctarget the needs of economically-disadvantaged communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese key projects will strengthen the nation\u2019s supply chain, provide significant new economic opportunities nationwide, and bolster our defenses against climate change,\u201d the administration noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
