Unless they choose to reveal themselves, the identities of the letter writers and the number of letters waiting are known to the chairman only until the threshold number is reached and a vote triggered.<\/p>\n<p>Given the inherent mystery, estimates and claims of the number of letters now in varies wildly.&nbsp;According to Conservative Party Whips, the number of no-confidence letters already submitted are in the 20s, however, others have put the estimate as being much higher.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Bridgen MP&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.uk\/news\/tory-rebels-revealed-with-mps-threatening-to-trigger-vote-of-no-confidence\/208722\">told<\/a> GB News that he believed around 34 letters have already been submitted and that the 54 letter threshold will be met on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to happen,\u201d Bridgen said. \u201cI think this will push over the 54 required to trigger a confidence motion vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Another Tory MP \u2014 unnamed by the paper \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2022\/01\/18\/rebel-mps-plot-oust-boris-johnson-covid-plan-b-restrictions\/\">told<\/a>&nbsp;<em>The Telegraph&nbsp;<\/em>that he also believed the 54 letter threshold could be met as early as Wednesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Saving His Own Skin: Boris Johnson Deploys Military to Secure Border in Bid to Boost Popularity<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PEo7k6czeI\">https:\/\/t.co\/PEo7k6czeI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1483106845786923010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>A further MP reportedly even went so far as to say that Johnson had already accepted the fact that a no-confidence vote will happen, with the parliamentarian\u2019s description of events seeming to reveal that the current premier doesn\u2019t favour his prospects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoris broke down in tears in front of several of us yesterday,\u201d&nbsp;<em>Mail on Sunday<\/em> journalist Dan Hodges <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dpjhodges\/status\/1483743495525478404?s=21\">reports<\/a> the anonymous MP as claiming. \u201cHe kept saying sorry. He knows he\u2019s finished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite this report, however, a no-confidence vote would not necessarily mean the end of the PM\u2019s premiership.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Johnson\u2019s predecessor, Theresa May, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2018\/12\/12\/theresa-may-conservative-party-confidence-vote-results\/\">survived<\/a> such a vote back in 2018 as well as a no-confidence vote from the leader of the opposition as well, the vast majority of Conservative MPs supporting her continued leadership in both cases, despite enough no-confidence letters having initially been sent to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2018\/12\/12\/tories-trigger-vote-no-confidence-prime-minister-theresa-may\/\">trigger<\/a> the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the outsize impact of Boris Johnson\u2019s apparent lockdown rule-breaking, his position does appear relatively stable in comparison to May, who led a&nbsp;minority government that couldn\u2019t win votes in Parliament and which was characterised by constant in-fighting<\/p>\n<p>While Boris Johnson has suffered a significant loss of face over the so-called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/18\/boris-nobody-told-me-boozy-lockdown-party-wasnt-work-related\/\">partygate<\/a>\u201d scandal \u2014 with his party\u2019s polling having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/13\/boris-johnsons-conservatives-drop-ten-points-behind-labour-in-opinion-poll\/\">dropped<\/a> 10 points behind Labour since the controversy began \u2014 it remains the case that he leads a commanding majority in Parliament and has a proven track record in winning elections. His recently tactic of promising identifiably conservative policies to voters \u2014 his \u201cOperation Red Meat\u201d \u2014 may yet prove fruitful, too.<\/p>\n<p>The British government has unloaded a suite of popular policies seemingly in the hopes of enticing both voters and MPs alike, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/17\/saving-his-own-skin-boris-johnson-deploys-military-to-secure-border-in-bid-to-boost-popularity\/\">deploying<\/a> the Royal Navy to secure the English Channel, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/16\/bbc-tax-to-be-abolished-by-2028-as-uk-promises-eventual-end-to-elderly-being-threatened-with-prison\/\">announcing<\/a> the eventual scrapping of the controversial BBC tax.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson is also expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-60047438\">announce<\/a> the substantial easing of Plan-B restrictions on Wednesday, with the Prime Minister\u2019s Health Secretary, Sajid Javid saying he was \u201ccautiously optimistic\u201d about the possibility of easing measures by sometime next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing a severe threat to his leadership, as a number of Conservative MPs have begun plotting his ouster, it is claimed.
