Pelosi was accompanied by the family of King as well as Democratic Representatives, including Ohio Rep. Joyce Beatty.<\/p>\n<p>Speeches at the event called on the Senate to abolish the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/13\/house-passes-two-democratic-voting-bills-quirk-skirt-one-filibuster-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">filibuster<\/a> in order for the John R. Lewis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voting Rights Advancement Act<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/2747\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Freedom to Vote Act<\/a> to pass into law.<\/p>\n<p>The bills, if passed, would nationalize election laws by giving the Justice Department to ability to challenge state voting laws as discriminatory, as previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/11\/joe-biden-elections-bills-segregation-filibuster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. The bills would also expand early voting and absentee ballot provision while stopping bans on ballot harvesting. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/20\/chuck-schumer-democrat-voting-senate-rules-filibuster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Schumer Vows To Bring Voting Bills, Rules Changes To Senate Floor)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the bills lack any Republican support, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have called for the abolition of the filibuster in order for them to pass. Biden and Harris have run into pushback in their own party, with Democratic Arizona Sen.
