In 2017, outgoing Vice President Biden found a home as a professor of presidential practice at the University of Pennsylvania. One year later, former Governor of Florida <a href=\"https:\/\/penntoday.upenn.edu\/news\/jeb-bush-named-presidential-professor-practice-2018-19-academic-year-penn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/penntoday.upenn.edu\/news\/jeb-bush-named-presidential-professor-practice-2018-19-academic-year-penn&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFOxufx-KqGJM1ybmCLxmeb7hopKA\">Jeb Bush<\/a> landed a Penn professorship alongside Biden.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Many other Leftist political figures, however, recently managed to gain professorships despite their lackluster careers. Here are five washed up Leftists who found homes in academia.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Beto O\u2019Rourke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Texas State University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id=15950\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id%3D15950&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHjUrBfNvrM40hgXFjLIoHX-qgkdA\">hired<\/a> Robert Francis \u201cBeto\u201d O\u2019Rourke \u2014 a former Democratic Congressman from Texas \u2014 for a teaching position in the spring of 2021.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">O\u2019Rourke served three terms in the House of Representatives. He led an unsuccessful campaign to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the 2018 midterm election, followed by an equally unsuccessful campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to Ken Grasso \u2014 the chair of Texas State\u2019s political science department \u2014 O\u2019Rourke \u201capproached people in the administration\u2026 and expressed an interest in teaching.\u201d The university <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universitystar.com\/news\/beto-orourke-to-teach-at-texas-state-in-spring-2021\/article_efe60970-0f40-11eb-a932-ab76c1028626.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.universitystar.com\/news\/beto-orourke-to-teach-at-texas-state-in-spring-2021\/article_efe60970-0f40-11eb-a932-ab76c1028626.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFds1duJRXhdKiGcjqmul01-i6wTA\">allowed<\/a> him to teach a virtual political science course.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The former Congressman is earning $7,500 for teaching the class.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Al Sharpton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Controversial minister and activist Al Sharpton landed a far more lucrative position at Tennessee State University.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id=16743\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id%3D16743&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH5H_Lb1o_vGsW3MrQ1YvNSc9unWw\">Campus Reform<\/a> revealed through a Freedom of Information Act request that Sharpton is earning $48,000 to serve as a \u201cdistinguished guest lecturer\u201d for the spring semester.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Tennessee State President Glenda Glover <a href=\"https:\/\/tnstatenewsroom.com\/archives\/27141\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/tnstatenewsroom.com\/archives\/27141&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFEia47vpUqWcLFg7IjGl-wA5vw5A\">said<\/a> that the school is \u201cexcited to have the Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights icon,\u201d whose presence means that students \u201cwill be able to engage with a piece of history at a time when his insight is more relevant than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sharpton \u2014 who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 \u2014 is teaching \u201cin the area of political science grounded in social justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In 2019, Sharpton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/al-sharpton-paid-his-family-more-than-80k-through-national-action-network-as-organization-spent-lavishly-on-travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/al-sharpton-paid-his-family-more-than-80k-through-national-action-network-as-organization-spent-lavishly-on-travel&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGCXc00zqg5xIevPDST8puq7R0UFw\">earned<\/a> $327,570 through his social justice organization, National Action Network. He was recently the subject of criticism for providing salaries and bonuses to members of his family \u2014 including a $5,000 \u201cscholarship\u201d for his ex-wife.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Alexander Vindman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Former Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman \u2014 who briefly gained national recognition as a witness during President Trump\u2019s first impeachment trial \u2014 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id=15823\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/article?id%3D15823&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHOSXwCi-adF7AMzokCyqWKDXOOdA\">tapped<\/a> by the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s Perry World House to serve as a visiting fellow.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Vindman retired from his position in the Army after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2019\/11\/19\/transcript-vindman-williams-testify-front-house-intelligence-committee-nov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2019\/11\/19\/transcript-vindman-williams-testify-front-house-intelligence-committee-nov\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFEi0exQhhiRSOx9lgxu8d2Ey7orQ\">claimed<\/a> that Trump led a \u201ccampaign of bullying, intimidation and retaliation\u201d against him. During the trial, Vindman all but <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/11\/19\/vindman-just-admitted-to-leaking-to-the-anti-trump-whistleblower\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/11\/19\/vindman-just-admitted-to-leaking-to-the-anti-trump-whistleblower\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEIP0Q8ZnkFP541HMATNuDX_Tk4BQ\">admitted<\/a> that he leaked information about President Trump\u2019s call to Ukraine to the anonymous whistleblower at the center of the impeachment proceedings.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">President Trump promptly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/trump-impeachment-inquiry\/vindman-who-provided-key-impeachment-testimony-escorted-white-house-attorney-n1132526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/trump-impeachment-inquiry\/vindman-who-provided-key-impeachment-testimony-escorted-white-house-attorney-n1132526&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGTLzMQ5f0zePpWsFU6cKOYwj0nNw\">ousted<\/a> Vindman from the National Security Council after the Senate voted for acquittal.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Joy Reid<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Howard University hired MSNBC anchor Joy Reid as a journalism professor for the spring 2021 semester.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIt\u2019s never been more important that journalists incorporate a thorough and honest historical context in our coverage,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.howard.edu\/newsroom\/article\/13601\/award-winning-msnbc-news-anchor-joy-reid-joins-howard-university-2021-hearst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsroom.howard.edu\/newsroom\/article\/13601\/award-winning-msnbc-news-anchor-joy-reid-joins-howard-university-2021-hearst&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHEABzMHQx8e6P0xVwjxSBd5tXMQw\">commented<\/a> Reid, who is teaching a course called \u201cCovering Race, Gender &amp; Politics in the Digital Age.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The class covers \u201cissues of race and gender\u201d as they relate to news coverage, as well as \u201cthe racial roots of journalistic objectivity vs. fairness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reid faced criticism in 2018 after the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/04\/24\/msnbc-stars-lame-excuse-after-homophobic-remarks-surface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/04\/24\/msnbc-stars-lame-excuse-after-homophobic-remarks-surface\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1612903410633000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGjKfX-u_HCl4tfiW2wGoykkGyHhQ\">New York Post<\/a> found that she had posted homophobic comments on her blog.
