Hawke expelled Djokovic after a federal court ruled his visa valid and Djokovic spent much of last week practicing to play in the Australian Open tennis tournament, which began on Monday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Authorities had initially detained Djokovic upon his arrival on the grounds that the medical exemption he had received to play in the tournament was mysteriously invalid. Djokovic later admitted to giving the Australian government false information regarding previous travel on the plane to Melbourne, but Hawke did not mention that fact in the government\u2019s order for Djokovic to leave.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic arrived in Belgrade, Serbia, on Monday. He is the reigning Australian Open champion and has won the tournament more than any other player. He also, for now, maintains his number-one ranking in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic\u2019s family \u2013 who held protests in Belgrade throughout the immigration saga \u2013 has maintained the tennis player did not invade Australia and would not have boarded a flight to the country if he had not received documentation guaranteeing his entry, like a valid visa. During an interview on Monday with David Koch of the Australian morning show&nbsp;<em>Sunrise on 7<\/em>,&nbsp;Frydenberg confirmed that Djokovic received a visa.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAs you know, we get a lot of visas, it\u2019s a computer-generated process,\u201d Frydenberg said. \u201cIt relies on the applicant putting in what they believe their conditions [are]. He said that he had a legitimate exemption, but that wasn\u2019t the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;How did he get on a plane?&#8221; \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kochie_online?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Kochie_Online<\/a> questions Treasurer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoshFrydenberg?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JoshFrydenberg<\/a> over the Novak Djokovic debacle after the tennis star was deported from Australia. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pLeL5sFrbj\">pic.twitter.com\/pLeL5sFrbj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sunrise (@sunriseon7) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sunriseon7\/status\/1482817498416553984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Koch repeatedly pressed Frydenberg to explain how Australian authorities permitted Djokovic to get on a flight to Melbourne in the first place, receiving little clarification before the \u201ccomputer\u201d answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get a visa, he filled it in, he said that he had the exemption, and when he gets to the border, the veracity of that exemption that he claims that he had is tested,\u201d Frydenberg had initially explained. \u201cAnd it did not meet the ATAGI guidelines as to what somebody needs to do to get to Australia if they\u2019re unvaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ATAGI is the \u201cAustralian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization,\u201d a bureaucratic entity that proscribes policy towards coronavirus vaccination.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_19517554\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1237782176.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-19517554\" src=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1237782176-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"990\" height=\"659\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Serbian police stand outside the VIP exit of Belgrade\u2019s international airport on January 17, 2022, ahead of Tennis world number one Novak Djokovic\u2019s arrival after his deportation from Australia over his coronavirus vaccination status. (WILLIAM WEST\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>That confusing followed a solid month of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2021\/12\/10\/australia-pm-steps-in-as-officials-bicker-over-vaccine-mandate-for-tennis-star-novak-djokovic\/\">finger-pointing<\/a> and confusion in December regarding whether Australia would allow Djokovic to play. At the time, Djokovic had not made public his vaccination status, though he had vocally supported allowing individuals to choose what medical products to put in their bodies \u2013 a controversial opinion in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The bickering between Tennis Australia officials and the government resulted in Prime Minister Scott Morrison weighing in, declaring,&nbsp;\u201cdecisions are being made by medical officials and other officials, not by politicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s immigration minister used his political power to deport Djokovic this week after a federal court ruled he was legally allowed to remain in the country.
