Schlissel and to install former president Mary Sue Coleman to the post in the interim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a Jan. 15 letter to Schlissel, the board said it took the action to remove him for cause after receiving information about an alleged sexual affair with a subordinate and determining that interactions with the subordinate \u2018were inconsistent with promoting the dignity and reputation of the university,\u2019\u201d the statement read. The board said it would reaffirm its decision on the matter in person at its board meeting next month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/education\/2022\/01\/16\/mark-schlissel-fired-university-michigan\/\">The Washington Post<\/a> reported Sunday that the Board of Regents received an anonymous complaint on December 8 that Schlissel was possibly involved in an \u201cinappropriate relationship\u201d with an employee. An investigation found that Schlissel used his official university email account \u201cover a period of years\u201d to \u201ccommunicate with that subordinate in a manner inconsistent with the dignity and reputation of the University.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/regents.umich.edu\/files\/meetings\/01-01\/Letter_to_Dr._Schlissel.pdf\">letter<\/a> sent directly to Schlissel by the Board included excerpts from the emails which allegedly violate university policy:<\/p>\n<p>A email from the subordinate in January contained the phrase \u201cOh Yes!\u201d Schlissel\u2019s response, dated January 9, 2021, said, \u201cLove it when you say that.\u201dSchlissel called the employee \u201csexier\u201d in an email in September.Schlissel wrote to the employee concerning a Michigan Wolverines basketball game he was scheduled to attend in an official capacity as President. In the email, he expressed disappointment with the prospect of not sitting with that employee, writing, \u201cthe only reason I agreed to go was to go with you. there is a conspiracy against me.\u201dSchlissel wrote to the employee, \u201c[y]ou can give me a private briefing\u201d in response to a December email on the subject of the Big Ten Championship\u2019s \u201cPresident\u2019s Suite briefing Info.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese emails demonstrate that you were communicating with the subordinate through the University of Michigan email system using an inappropriate tone and inappropriate language. They also demonstrate that you were using official University of Michigan business as a means to pursue and carry out a personal relationship with the subordinate,\u201d the Board of Regents said in its letter.<\/p>\n<p>Schlissel\u2019s conduct was particularly egregious, the Board added, because of his alleged involvement in another incident of sexual harassment involving former University Provost Martin Philbert, as well as his declared commitment to \u201cfree\u201d the University from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/she-accused-him-of-sexual-assault-but-stopped-participating-in-school-investigation-after-being-told-her-claims-would-be-challenged\">sexual misconduct<\/a>. Schlissel declared at the time that he would \u201cdetermine what we need to do to address the fear of retaliation and build a culture that does not accept misconduct or harassment at any level,\u201d according to the letter.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Regents also said in the Saturday statement that it was releasing dozens of emails between Schlissel and the employee that \u201cillustrate this inappropriate conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Regents added that it had \u201cfull confidence\u201d in Coleman as interim president, saying that she \u201cwill provide the leadership our university community will need during this time of transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
