However, the replay appeared to tell a different story.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Maybe an audio sync issue or some other glitch, but you could definitely hear a whistle mid-pass on the broadcast. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FZctJVMtLd\">pic.twitter.com\/FZctJVMtLd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/awfulannouncing\/status\/1482485238970261506?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 15, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The whistle was blown because an official erroneously thought Bengals QB Joe Burrow had stepped out of bounds prior to throwing the ball. The whistle can clearly be heard before the ball is caught, and the Raiders clearly heard it as well since every player in the end zone wearing silver and black stopped playing and began pointing to the officials when Boyd started celebrating.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>As ESPN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/33078679\/jerome-boger-officials-raiders-bengals-game-not-expected-work-again-nfl-postseason\">reports<\/a>, \u201cNFL senior vice president of officiating Walt Anderson said after the game that Boger and his crew \u201cdid not feel that the whistle was blown before the receiver caught the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anderson addressed the issue after the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe confirmed with the referee and the crew that on that play \u2014 they got together and talked \u2014 they determined that they had a whistle, but that the whistle for them on the field was blown after the receiver caught the ball,\u201d Anderson said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cndimages.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/16123423\/wide-receiver-tyler-boyd-of-the-cincinnati-bengals-catches-a-second-picture-id1364855634\" alt=\"Wide receiver Tyler Boyd of the Cincinnati Bengals catches a second quarter pass in front of safety Roderic Teamer of the Las Vegas Raiders during...\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>CINCINNATI, OHIO \u2013 JANUARY 15: Wide receiver Tyler Boyd #83 of the Cincinnati Bengals catches a second quarter pass in front of safety Roderic Teamer #33 of the Las Vegas Raiders during the AFC Wild Card playoff game at Paul Brown Stadium on January 15, 2022 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Andy Lyons\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is simply not the case, as the video demonstrates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInadvertent and\/or erroneous whistles are not reviewable under the NFL\u2019s current instant replay rules,\u201d ESPN reports.<\/p>\n<p>The blown call not only cost the Raiders, but it also will likely cost Boger and his crew since the NFL grades officials based on their Wild-Card performances to determine if they should get a shot at officiating in the Divisional Round.<\/p>\n<p>One would imagine that the Raiders, and probably other teams as well, would protest hotly if Boger\u2019s crew was rewarded with another game after such a disaster.<\/p>\n<p>The blown call led to a touchdown, and a touchdown ended up being the difference in the game as the Bengals won 26-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cincinnati Bengals survived and advanced in the NFL playoffs after their victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.
