FOX News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/philadelphia-carjackers-shot-by-legally-armed-drivers-3-separate-times-so-far-in-2022-report-states\">noted<\/a> that these early 2022 carjackings follow a 2021 that saw a 34 percent increase in carjackings compared to 2020.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The prevalence of carjackings has gotten so bad that Philadelphia police commissioner Danielle M. Outlaw tweeted special safety tips to help drivers avoid carjacking and\/or cope with carjackers should they be targeted:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There is no single issue that is more important to me, or the members of the PPD, than fighting violent crime. One of the more disturbing trends that we have seen is the startling increase in the number of carjackings. Here is what we&#8217;re doing about it: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mKJZZL363U\">https:\/\/t.co\/mKJZZL363U<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yVHsFNLdkM\">pic.twitter.com\/yVHsFNLdkM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Danielle M. Outlaw (@PPDCommish) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PPDCommish\/status\/1481422648647237637?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Drivers with guns have thwarted a number of Philadelphia carjackings.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/14\/carjacking-suspect-in-critical-condition-after-shootout-with-armed-driver\/\">reported<\/a> that an attempted carjacking ended in a shootout between the driver and the alleged carjacker on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Philadelphia Inquirer<\/em>&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/philly-police-carjacking-shooting-20220113.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">noted<\/a>&nbsp;the incident began when a 16-year-old carjacker allegedly tried to take a 60-year-old man\u2019s \u201cwhite Pontiac at gunpoint \u2026 around 7:45 p.m. at Sharpnack and Cherokee Streets.\u201d The teenager was shot twice and hospitalized in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, an armed driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/12\/driver-shot-alleged-carjacker-stay-school-dont-play-guns\/\">shot<\/a>&nbsp;an alleged carjacker in the Fairmont area of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>FOX 29&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fox29.com\/news\/police-armed-assailant-shot-by-licensed-to-carry-victim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">observed<\/a>&nbsp;that the driver, a 32-year-old healthcare worker, \u201cwas meant to be performing a job for a person inside a residence,\u201d but the alleged carjacker approached the driver\u2019s door with a gun.<\/p>\n<p>The driver, a concealed carry permit holder, opened fire.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged carjacker fled and was later apprehended when he went to the hospital to get treatment for his gunshot wound.<\/p>\n<p>On January 3, 2022, a Lyft driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/04\/lyft-driver-with-concealed-carry-opens-fire-foils-alleged-carjacking\/\">opened fire<\/a> on two alleged carjackers, wounding both suspects.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">2\/2 Carjacker in Honda passenger seat gets out with rifle, demands <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lyft?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Lyft<\/a> driver give up Infiniti.
