The ruling will likely be appealed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"js-quickedit-page-title\">The original drop box instructions were <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/politics-policy\/elections\/wisconsin-judge-rules-absentee-ballot-drop-boxes-illegal-election\">issued<\/a> in March of 2020 and were reportedly instrumental in getting out the vote during the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"js-quickedit-page-title\">The judge\u2019s ruling reportedly specified the so-called \u201cbipartisan\u201d commission should not have unilaterally issued the drop box guidance to local election officials without proceeding through the traditional rulemaking process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"js-quickedit-page-title\">\u201cState statutes do not address the use of ballot drop boxes, though the state elections commission issued guidance in early 2020 to allow election clerks to make use of them,\u201d the <em>Wisconsin State Journal<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/madison.com\/wsj\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/waukesha-county-judge-rules-absentee-ballot-drop-boxes-not-allowed\/article_5acbe698-d6fa-598b-8b1e-1fb8decd4a39.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The three conservative justices on the 7-justice Wisconsin Supreme Court wrote in&nbsp;<i>Trump v. Biden<\/i>&nbsp;in 2020 that tens of thousands of ballots were cast in violation of state election laws, including by the use of these drop boxes.<\/p>\n<p>But by a 4-3 vote, a liberal-led majority of that court held on December 14, 2020, that it was too late for the court to rule on the merits of those legal claims, and the conservatives\u2019 opinion was relegated to a dissent from that decision.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14657942\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14657942\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/vote-by-mail-ballots-wa-getty.jpg\" alt=\"mail voting\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">An election worker wearing protective gloves sorts through mailed-in ballots. (Photo by John Moore\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"js-quickedit-page-title\">In essence, the Wisconsin Supreme Court&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2021\/report-finds-80-who-claimed-indefinitely-confined-status-to-vote-had-previously-provided-ids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ruled<\/a>&nbsp;that&nbsp;voters were allowed, according to the commission\u2019s rules,&nbsp;to register for an absentee ballot without furnishing an ID and could alternatively claim a rare status of&nbsp;\u201cindefinitely confined\u201d due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The special status could only be used if the voter was sick or disabled, however. But that did not stop an estimated 250,000 people from voting absentee without a voter ID,&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/politics-policy\/elections\/wisconsin-judge-rules-absentee-ballot-drop-boxes-illegal-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claiming<\/a>&nbsp;the rare status due to \u201cage, physical illness or infirmity or are disabled for an indefinite period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to WisPolitcs.com, the clerk\u2019s office accepted 653,236 in-person ballots. Another 1.3 million were cast absentee.
