Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s (D-MI) administration undercounted coronavirus deaths inside the state\u2019s long-term care facilities by approximately 30 percent, a state auditor general report seen by Fox News said.<\/p>\n<p>The report that is scheduled to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/whitmer-admin-undercounted-michigan-nursing-home-covid-deaths\">released<\/a> to the public Monday may reignite criticism of the governor\u2019s performance during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<div class=\"ad-container desktop ad-h-50 ad-w-300\">\n<div id=\"desktop_desk-art-pol-lb2\" class=\"ad gam\">\n<p>Michigan state Rep. Steven Johnson (R) explained to Fox News recently Whitmer is \u201cwell known\u201d for her executive order \u201cto place COVID-positive patients into nursing homes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article continued:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAnd when we were looking into this to see just how deadly that policy was, the nursing home death numbers we received from the department weren\u2019t including everything,\u201d Johnson said, confirming the number in the report was 30%.&nbsp;Johnson said there are \u201csome serious questions that have to be asked\u201d about the alleged undercounting and that \u201cit does appear the people of Michigan were misled as to just how many nursing home deaths there were\u201d due to Whitmer\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSeeing that it\u2019s actually 30% higher is quite significant \u2014 we\u2019re talking about thousands of lives that were not initially included in the department\u2019s count,\u201d Johnson noted.<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan House Oversight Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/gophouse.org\/member\/repstevenjohnson\/about\">chairman<\/a> added the committee \u201cplans to hold hearings on this in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In July, the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) chose not to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2021\/07\/23\/biden-doj-will-not-investigate-gretchen-whitmer-nursing-home-deaths\/\">investigate<\/a> coronavirus-related nursing home deaths that occurred in Michigan, Breitbart News reported.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMichigan, New York, and Pennsylvania enacted controversial policies to placing coronavirus-infected patients into nursing homes to recuperate, effectively spreading the disease among the most susceptible population,\u201d the article read.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Elizabeth Hertel, who serves as director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), claimed the auditor general\u2019s report was inaccurate because analysis did not employ the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definition of a long-term facility coronavirus death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA reportable long-term care COVID-19 death is defined by the National Healthcare Safety Network as a resident who died from COVID-19 related complications and includes resident deaths in the facility, and in other locations in which the resident with COVID-19 was transferred to receive treatment,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents not expected to return to the long-term care facility are excluded from the count. MDHHS has always required long-term care COVID-19 deaths be reported consistent with this standard set by the federal government,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The number may be more, with some reports noting the amount of undercounted deaths could be over 40 percent, the Fox article said.<\/p>\n<p>In December, Whitmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2021\/12\/18\/report-gretchen-whitmers-michigan-cannot-meet-monoclonal-antibody-demand\/\">faced<\/a> another coronavirus-related problem as her state was reportedly unable to meet the demand of patients seeking monoclonal antibody treatments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
