He disputed that \u201cdealing with climate\u201d comes at the expense of energy workers, adding that there is \u201ca lot of money to be made\u201d in the creation of new \u201chealthier\u201d jobs in sectors such as green hydrogen and geothermal heat.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday,\u00a0Fox News\u2019 Peter Doocy asked Psaki at a White House press conference, \u201cWhen is it that the Biden administration is going to let the thousands of fossil fuel industry workers, whether it\u2019s pipeline workers or construction workers who are either out of work or will soon be out of work because of a Biden [executive order], when it is and where it is that they can go for their green job?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would certainly welcome you to present your data of all the thousands and thousands of people who won\u2019t be getting a green job,\u201d Psaki responded. \u201cMaybe next time you\u2019re here, you can present that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you said that they would be getting green jobs. So I\u2019m just asking when that happens,\u201d Doocy shot back, before citing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/afl-cio-head-killing-keystone-xl-pipeline-a-mistake-and-will-cost-jobs_3688194.html\">AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka<\/a>\u00a0who had criticized\u00a0Biden\u2019s revocation of the Keystone XL permit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Laborers\u2019 International Union of North America said the Keystone decision will \u2018cost 1,000 existing union jobs and 10,000 projected construction\u2019 jobs,\u201d the reporter continued, referring to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liuna.org\/news\/story\/canceling-keystone-kills-union-jobs\">report<\/a> published on Jan. 20.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are people living paycheck to paycheck. There are now people out of jobs once the Keystone pipeline stopped construction\u2026 it\u2019s been 19 days since that [executive order]. (Terray Sylvester\/Reuters)<\/p>\n<p>Psaki responded by saying that Biden will share more details of a plan to create \u201cgreen\u201d jobs \u201cin the weeks ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president and many Democrats and Republicans in Congress believe that investment in infrastructure\u2014building infrastructure that\u2019s in our national interests, that boosts the U.S. economy, creates good-paying union jobs here in America, and advances our climate and clean energy goals\u2014are something that we can certainly work on doing together,\u201d the press secretary said.<\/p>\n<p>Psaki\u2019s response was met with widespread criticism on social media, including from Fox News\u2019 Laura Ingraham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPsaki Translator: I have no flipping idea where these green jobs are going to come from or how much taxpayers will be fleeced to \u2018create\u2019 them,\u201d Ingraham <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IngrahamAngle\/status\/1358853289010466822\">wrote<\/a> on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s energy policies since Jan. 20 have been heavily criticized by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).<\/p>\n<p>He said at a Senate session on Jan. 28 that the Biden administration\u2019s actions so far are \u201cthe wrong prescription,\u201d\u00a0including the decision to revoke authorization for the Keystone pipeline, the decision to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord, and other actions taken in the name of addressing climate change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing green about a tsunami of pink slips for American workers, or carting Canadian crude around in trucks and trains instead of a pipeline,\u201d McConnell said.\u00a0\u201cThis piecemeal Green New Deal is the wrong prescription. Wrong for the environment, wrong for national security.\u00a0And most of all for the working Americans who will soon be formerly working Americans if this keeps up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cChina, Russia, and our other competitors must be thrilled, absolutely thrilled, that our new government is essentially declaring war on some of our own economic foundations to satisfy a craving for symbolic gesture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWillfully throwing our own people out of work, reducing our domestic energy security, raising costs and prices for working families\u2014all for no meaningful impact on global temperatures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican senator praised the policies of the Trump administration saying, \u201cThe last four years prove that growing our prosperity, reducing emissions, and expanding domestic energy are actually not in tension\u2014we can achieve all three.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><em>Mimi Nguyen Ly contributed to this report.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday dodged a question from a reporter about when unemployed Keystone pipeline workers can expect new \u201cgreen\u201d employment.
