Metro Manila\u2019s pandemic task force placed the national capital region \u2014&nbsp;home to nearly 13 million residents \u2014 under a \u201clevel 3\u201d alert for the Chinese coronavirus on January 3, with the status expected to remain in place through at least January 15. The Philippines\u2019 IATF will determine when and if Metro Manila\u2019s coronavirus alert level changes in the near future, the nation\u2019s transportation department said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I]t\u2019s high time to police those who are unvaccinated and to regulate their movements,\u201d Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philstar.com\/headlines\/2022\/01\/12\/2153459\/dotr-bans-unvaccinated-transport-metro-manila-mayors-launch-vax-sites-access-incentives\">told<\/a> reporters on January 12 when asked about the new public transport ban for the unvaccinated. Mayor Isko Moreno, who is running for the Philippine presidency in an upcoming general election in May, made the remark while attending the opening of a Chinese coronavirus vaccination site in Manila city.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippine federal government\u2019s \u201clevel 3\u201d alert system forces a community to lower capacity limits at all churches, parks, restaurants, and beauty salons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn-person classes and contact sports are suspended,\u201d Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte\u2019s spokesman, Karlo Nograles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20211231-philippines-tightens-quarantine-rules-in-capital-over-omicron\">told<\/a> reporters of Metro Manila\u2019s level 3 restrictions on December 31, 2021, shortly before they came into effect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[L]ocalized lockdowns targeting specific buildings, streets, and neighborhoods will also be enforced,\u201d Nograles said at the time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>A council of Metro Manila mayors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/01\/07\/philippines-manila-bans-unvaccinated-from-leaving-homes-duterte-threatens-arrest\/\">passed<\/a> a resolution on January 3 \u201curging the passage of local ordinances prohibiting unvaccinated individuals from going outside their residences, except for essential trips,\u201d the <em>Philippine Inquirer<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/newsinfo.inquirer.net\/1535600\/mmda-orders-metros-unvaxxed-to-stay-home\">reported<\/a> on January 4.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution encouraged council members to \u201cbar the unvaccinated from indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants and other food establishments, and from leisure or social trips to malls, hotels, sports, and other similar facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mandate, which has since come into effect, additionally prohibits unvaccinated Metro Manila residents from \u201cdomestic travel via public land, sea and air transportation, except to buy essential goods and services such as food and water, for work or medical and health reasons,\u201d according to the <em>Inquirer<\/em>\u2018s January 4 report.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16462826\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/05\/Philippines-Duterte.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16462826\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Philippines-Duterte-1024x768-1.jpg\" alt=\"MANILA, PHILIPPINES - FEBRUARY 28: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte holds up a vial of Sinovac Biotech&#039;s COVID-19 vaccines as he witnesses the arrival of a shipment of the vaccines at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on February 28, 2021 in Manila, Philippines. (Photo by Ezra Acayan\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/asia\/philippines-duterte-threatens-people-not-vaccinated-covid-19-arrest-2419296\">expressed<\/a> support for the movement restrictions imposed on Metro Manila\u2019s unvaccinated population in a January 6 speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuterte in an televised address to the nation said he was asking community leaders to look for unvaccinated people and make sure they were confined to their homes,\u201d Channel News Asia (CNA) reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he refuses, if he goes out his house and goes around the community, he can be restrained.
