Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) on Thursday rejected President Biden\u2019s plea to destroy the 60-vote filibuster threshold that would make way for election integrity destruction.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking from the Senate floor while Biden was urging Democrat senators to curtail the filibuster, Sinema <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Reuters\/status\/1481674594150846468?s=20\">defended<\/a> the filibuster as the deliberative body\u2019s mechanism for&nbsp;thoughtful public debate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis week\u2019s harried discussions about Senate rules are but a poor substitute for what I believe could have and should have been a thoughtful public debate at any time over the past year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what is the legislative filibuster, other than a tool that requires new federal policy to be broadly supported by senators, representing the broader cross-section of Americans?\u201d she continued. \u201cDemands to eliminate this threshold from whichever party holds the fleeting majority amount to a group of people separated on two sides of a canyon, shouting that solution to their colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sinema\u2019s statement is important because Biden needs all 50 Democrats senators\u2019 \u201cyes\u201d votes to alter the filibuster\u2019s rules.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">MANCHIN just now on Sinema\u2019s speech: \u201cVery good. Mitch McConnell\u2019s (R-KY) comments on Wednesday that stressed the importance of the filibuster in an evenly divided Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday&nbsp;marks&nbsp;the&nbsp;longest&nbsp;time&nbsp;in&nbsp;history&nbsp;that&nbsp;the&nbsp;Senate&nbsp;has&nbsp;been&nbsp;equally&nbsp;divided.&nbsp;The&nbsp;House&nbsp;of&nbsp; Representatives is&nbsp;nearly&nbsp;equally&nbsp;divided&nbsp;as&nbsp;well,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur&nbsp;mandate, it&nbsp;seems&nbsp;evident&nbsp;to&nbsp;me, [is to] work&nbsp;together&nbsp;and&nbsp;get stuff done for America,\u201d Sinema said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-meta\">\n<p>On the matter of destroying election integrity,&nbsp;Sinema indicated she supports the Democrats\u2019 effort to federalize local elections but that the bills \u201c\u2018do not fully address the disease\u201d of division.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThese bills help treat the symptoms of the disease, but they do not fully address the disease itself.
