(AP Photo\/Brynn Anderson)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The state ended fiscal year 2021 with a $3.7 billion budget surplus, which an&nbsp;<em>Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/em>&nbsp;analysis&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/report-shows-giant-state-revenue-surplus-in-georgia\/W6MIYQP45ZFY7N55B7QBR3GTJU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found<\/a>&nbsp;was due largely to revenue growth from state income, sales, and corporate income taxes, as well as federal coronavirus relief.<\/p>\n<p>Kemp said of his plans to pour some of the extra funds into schools, \u201cThe need for a world-class K\u201312 education to prepare our children for an everchanging workforce has never been greater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor said he plans to use $425 million to properly fund education in his budget proposal for fiscal year 2023, which begins July 1, noting the funds are intended to go \u201cdirectly to schools in every corner of Georgia to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and ensure every child receives a quality education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kemp also vowed to sign a parental bill of rights this year once the legislation makes its way through the General Assembly.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The initiative to focus on parents\u2019 role in the education system has gained traction nationwide, including at the federal level, where Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO)&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hawley.senate.gov\/hawley-introduces-parents-bill-rights-defend-parents-role-education#:~:text=The%20Parents&#039;%20Bill%20of%20Rights%20Act%20will%20empower%20parents%20to,books%2C%20and%20other%20instructional%20materials.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;a bill that would move education policy issues \u2014 like the contents of curriculums and the level of access to school information \u2014 closer into the hands of parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the classroom to the ball field, there are those who want to divide our kids along political lines, push partisan agendas, and indoctrinate students from all walks of life,\u201d Kemp said. \u201cThis is wrong.
