And, it appeared that he \u2013 there was criticism from the upper chamber, from Mr. Durbin, saying that he went over \u2013 perhaps a little bit over the top a little bit,\u201d a reporter said. \u201cWhat are your thoughts on that? And, do you think that the president may have gone a little bit too far in trying to sell this particular bill to the American people and trying to get votes to try and get this passed by [inaudible] the filibuster?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. I stand with the president. I think that I \u2013 I thought his speech was wonderful, and I stand with him in the fight for voting rights. No criticism of Mr. Durbin. He has to do what he has to do vis\u2011a\u2011vis his own Members and the rest,\u201d Pelosi responded. \u201cThe only criticism I would make, too \u2013 I wouldn\u2019t say criticisms, but observations. Nobody knows who Bull Connor [is]. You know, if we\u2019re making the case to say, \u2018We\u2019re going to be with Martin Luther King or Bull Connor\u2019 \u2013 who\u2019s that? \u2018If we\u2019re going to be with Martin Luther King or [the people] \u2013 Martin Luther King and John Lewis, or the people who unleashed the fierce dogs on them\u2019 \u2013 that\u2019s who Bull Connor is. Strom Thurmond \u2013 none of us have a lot of happy memories about Strom Thurmond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, again, since you asked my critique of the president\u2019s speech, I thought it was fabulous,\u201d she concluded. \u201cI come out, congratulate him for it. It was well\u2011received, even among those who had some apprehension of what\u2019s going to happen with this, all of this, next.
