The disease caused by the virus spawned an ongoing global pandemic first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/director-general\/speeches\/detail\/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-media-briefing-on-covid-19---11-march-2020\">declared<\/a> by the W.H.O. \u2014 which is the international public health body of the United Nations \u2014 on March 11, 2020.
