Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet were one of those couples. That\u2019s why their recent announcement of a split came as such a surprise to so many of their fans.<\/p>\n<p>The couple\u2019s statement on their divorce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CYprLX4pTdW\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=eb54297b-9d99-4b4b-ba68-00850ab127df\">read<\/a>: \u201cWe have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times\u2026 A revolution is unfolding \u2013 and our family is of no exception\u2026 feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so, we share our family news, that we are parting ways in marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement continued, \u201cWe share this not because we think it\u2019s newsworthy, But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe free each other ~to be who we are learning to become\u2026Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life &amp; our Children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Momoa, 42, and Bonet, 54, began dating in 2005 and wed in secret in 2017. The couple shares two children \u2013 daughter Lola and son Nakoa-Wolf \u2013 together. Bonet also has another daughter Zo\u00eb Kravitz, whom she shares with ex-husband musician Lenny Kravitz.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Part of the reason some fans believed Momoa and Bonet would last forever is the background of their love story. Momoa admitted he fell in love with his future wife when he saw her on \u201cThe Cosby Show.\u201d Much later, they ran into each other at a jazz club and were instantly smitten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen it was more than [love at first sight],\u201d Momoa <a href=\"https:\/\/ktvz.com\/entertainment\/cnn-entertainment\/2022\/01\/12\/jason-momoa-and-lisa-bonet-announce-split\/\">said<\/a> when he was asked about his relationship with Bonet during an appearance on \u201cThe Late Late Show with James Corden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEver since I was 8 years old and I saw her on the TV I was like, \u2018Mommy, I want that one.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cI was like, \u2018I\u2019m going to stalk you for the rest of my life, and I\u2019m going to get you.\u2019 I\u2019m a full-fledged stalker. But yeah, I\u2019ve just always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When they finally met through mutual friends at a jazz club, he shared his reaction when finally meeting Bonet officially. \u201cI turned around to my friend and I was like \u2018ahhh!\u2019 I had f***ing fireworks going off inside, man,\u201d Momoa said.<\/p>\n<p>Momoa once told Men\u2019s Health, \u201cI met her over a pint of Guinness. She ordered it. I thought \u2018Oh my God, I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m with a woman who ordered a Guinness. I love her.\u2019 When I got to know her, she was the woman of my dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Momoa didn\u2019t shy away from over-the-top romantic gestures to make his true feelings known. The \u201cAquaman\u201d star paid to have Bonet\u2019s 1965 Mustang painstakingly restored and documented the whole process on YouTube in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The actor wrote in a short Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CDek6EcD_SR\/\">clip<\/a>, \u201cAloha everyone, this is 14 years in the making. I wanted to surprise my wife with her first car she ever bought and bring it back to life and into our family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Momoa bought Bonet a donkey just because she wanted one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI live up in Topanga, on five acres,\u201d he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/19\/arts\/jason-momoa-braves-new-frontiers.html\">The New York Times<\/a> in 2017. \u201cI go hiking a lot. I\u2019ve got kids, goats. My wife always wanted a donkey, so I bought her one. We walk our donkey, and we\u2019ve got two [dogs] who are half Malamute, half wolf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A long infatuation and a few big romantic gestures weren\u2019t enough to save Bonet and Momoa\u2019s marriage, however.
