Those who declined to get vaccinated were either fired or obtained an exemption and were subsequently placed on unpaid leave.&nbsp;<\/span><span>According to the report, Kirby told employees the airline is \u201ctrimming its schedule\u201d in order to deal with the increase in sick calls. In a memo to staff, Kirby said 3,000 workers have tested positive for coronavirus, which is \u201c4 percent of its U.S. workforce.\u201d The report continued:<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Kirby said in a memo published on the company\u2019s website Monday that United is \u201creducing our near-term schedules to make sure we have the staffing and resources to take care of customers.\u201d A spokeswoman on Tuesday declined to say how many flights the carrier is canceling.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Several U.S. airlines combined have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/27\/over-thousand-u-s-flights-canceled-monday\/\">canceled or delayed<\/a> thousands of flights since the holiday season as they grapple with a surge of omicron variant infections. CNBC reported:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>JetBlue Airways was the first carrier to cut back its January schedule because of a surge in infection rates among crews, which was later followed by Alaska Airlines.
