Rick Scott (R-FL) ripped into the federal election reform proposals pending before Congress during a call with reporters, just ahead of President Joe Biden visiting Georgia on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe call it the Freedom to Cheat Act,\u201d McDaniel said of the Freedom to Vote Act, which Senate Democrats are hoping to pass against Republican wishes by changing the 60-vote filibuster rule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt eviscerates state voter ID laws, which 36 states have passed,\u201d the chairwoman said. \u201cThis bill eliminates states\u2019 more secure voter ID requirements, replacing them with a process that is rife with fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19465850\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1229557060.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19465850\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/GettyImages-1229557060.jpg\" alt=\"WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 09: RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel speaks during a press conference at the Republican National Committee headquarters on November 9, 2020 in Washington, DC. (Samuel Corum\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The sweeping bill would indeed order states with voter ID laws to&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/2747\/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22freedom+to+vote+act%22%2C%22freedom%22%2C%22to%22%2C%22vote%22%2C%22act%22%5D%7D&amp;r=2&amp;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">widen<\/a>&nbsp;their accepted forms of voter identification to allow for several alternatives, including forms of identification that do not contain a photo.<\/p>\n<p>The influential conservative thinktank Heritage Foundation, which has actively been lobbying states to tighten their election processes, deems \u201cmodel\u201d voter ID rules to be those that require voters to present a government-issued ID that contains a photo and makes clear that the voter is an American citizen when they go to cast their ballot. In December, Heritage&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/16\/heritage-foundation-analysis-ranks-georgia-no-1-election-integrity-overhaul-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scored<\/a>&nbsp;states on this metric and found six states, including Georgia \u2014 a state that has become ground zero in the fight over election laws \u2014 received perfect scores in regard to voter ID laws specifically. Another 22 states received at least partial credit or more for their voter ID laws.<\/p>\n<p>McDaniel cited Atlanta\u2019s recent municipal elections, which took place well after Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed into law Georgia\u2019s high-profile Election Integrity Act last year. Despite Democrats&nbsp;and some corporations attacking the overhaul bill, claiming it amounted to voter suppression of racial minorities, the major Georgia newspaper the&nbsp;<em>Atlanta-Journal Constitution<\/em>&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/polls-open-voters-choose-mayors-city-councils-local-taxes\/WICTGADCTVE37MEHRTNBJLBQMQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;the city elections ran smoothly for voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost voters reported they didn\u2019t face any obstacles at the polls,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>AJC<\/em>&nbsp;wrote. McDaniel also noted voter turnout in Atlanta increased by 17 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The chairwoman added that boycotts that took place, namely by Major League Baseball, over the election bill happened because Democrats like Biden and voting rights activist Stacey Abrams publicly misrepresented it. She noted the&nbsp;<em>Washington Post<\/em>&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/30\/biden-falsely-claims-new-georgia-law-ends-voting-hours-early\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fact-checking<\/a>&nbsp;Biden at the time, awarding the president \u201cfour Pinocchios\u201d for his remarks on one of the bill\u2019s provisions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cGeorgians lost out on $100 million in projected revenue. It forces [states] to let violent felons vote. I mean, the list goes on and on about how bad, how truly bad this bill is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senate Democrats, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have conveyed serious interest in voting on changing Senate rules as early as sometime in the next week to push through election reforms, despite two Democrats remaining opposed to changing the 60-vote filibuster rule, the key rule that \u2014 if changed or circumvented \u2014 would allow Schumer to pass election reforms with a simply majority of senators rather than 60.<\/p>\n<p>Scott charged that \u201cDemocrats don\u2019t want free and fair elections.
