Surely somebody needed to have a quiet word to say \u2018what\u2019s going on\u2019? That\u2019s the bit that a lot of the public need to understand\u201d, Fahy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">Questions were also raised by Fahy about the \u201cprofessional curiosity\u201d of the Met, with the implication being if officers are legitimately unable to detect a potential party going on in Downing Street, they may be unable to detect a security threat.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">The former Chief Constable additionally highlighted the hypocrisy of the Met allegedly choosing to turn a blind eye to sometimes \u201cblatant\u201d government breaches while simultaneously fining others in central London for breaking coronavirus restrictions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">\u201cIf nothing else, was it raised as a concern with the authorities? Because on the other side of that big [Downing Street] gate, other officers are stopping people on the street and fining them for Covid breaches\u201d, Fahy highlighted to&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/lockdown-parties-why-didnt-downing-street-officers-stop-them-asks-ex-police-chief-wllz6dw73\">The Times<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">Fahy\u2019s words came amid an email <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/11\/boris-govt-facing-potential-police-probe-and-political-disaster-over-lockdown-breaking-boozy-bash\/\">surfacing<\/a> from the Prime Minister\u2019s Principal Private Secretary Martin Reynolds which was sent to over 100 Downing Street employees on May 20th, 2020, inviting them to \u201csocially distanced drinks in the No10 garden\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">The email also suggested that the attendees \u201cbring your own booze!\u201d. It is claimed the email was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/09\/uk-government-accused-of-having-yet-another-lockdown-party\/\">deleted<\/a> from Number 10\u2019s computer system, but ITV News has managed to obtain a copy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">ITV reports that the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie Johnson, n\u00e9e Symonds, as well as 40 staffers, gathered in Number 10\u2019s garden for the party mentioned in Reynolds\u2019 email.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p-rich_text_block\" dir=\"auto\">On the 20th of May 2020, the same day this party allegedly took place, Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary at the time, repeatedly emphasised that people should stick to the lockdown rules, saying phrases such as: \u201cstay at home as much as possible\u201d, \u201cwork from home if you can\u201d, and \u201climit contact with other people\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ten Times British Lockdown Rulemakers Broke Their own Covid Restrictions<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H1wUkhIUYr\">https:\/\/t.co\/H1wUkhIUYr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1477327509188272128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 1, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">There have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/01\/ten-times-british-lockdown-rulemakers-broke-their-own-covid-restrictions\/\">multiple<\/a> accusations of rulebreaking levelled against the party of government, from disgruntled former Chief Advisor Dominic Cummings, to anonymous sources supplying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/12\/20\/boris-johnson-accused-of-breaking-lockdown-again-with-alleged-wine-party\/\">photographic<\/a> evidence of potentially lockdown-buster events taking place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">As a consequence of these breeches being exposed there have been several resignations: former government advisor Allegra Stratton, former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, former London Mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey and former government advisor Professor Neil Ferguson to name a few, but the Metropolitan Police have so far taken no major action against them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\">In an apparent justification for their lack of investigation, the Met have previously said that it is inappropriate for them to retrospectively investigate alleged breaches of<span class=\"paywall-EAB47CFD\">&nbsp;lockdown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Met has however released a statement on the 11th of January 2021 saying: \u201cThe Metropolitan Police service is aware of widespread reporting relating to alleged breaches of the Health Protection Regulations at Downing Street on 20 May 2020 and is in contact with the Cabinet Office\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Labour Party\u2019s leader,&nbsp;Sir Kier Starmer, urged Johnson to \u201cfinally come clean\u201d about his hypocrisy to the British public, and end his \u201cdeflections and distractions\u201d which Starmer branded as \u201cabsurd\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative MP and former&nbsp;Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence People and Veterans and Johnny Mercer has apologised to his constituents over the governments alleged repeated breaches and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnnyMercerUK\/status\/1480958951445471237?s=20\">branded<\/a> the whole ordeal \u201chumiliating\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Matt Hancock Resigns as Health Secretary After Being Caught Kissing Aide <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/blouzCLQb5\">https:\/\/t.co\/blouzCLQb5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1408840250517037057?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Former Manchester Police Chief has demanded to know why the Metropolitan Police haven\u2019t investigated the government\u2019s alleged repeated breach of Covid restrictions.
