Parents aren\u2019t the enemy, and it would be inexcusable if he solicited that kind of rhetoric from the National School Board Association,\u201d Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sasse.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/2022\/1\/sasse-secretary-cardona-must-answer-for-politicizing-parents-concerns\">statement<\/a> Tuesday. \u201cThe baseless, dishonest allegations of terrorism in the NSBA letter are vile because they\u2019re designed to silence important discussions about education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emails we\u2019ve uncovered \u2014 as well as whistleblower information that America First Legal <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.aflegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Garland-Memo-DOJ-IG-Request-10072021.pdf\">obtained<\/a> \u2014 strongly implies that increased parental engagement in education issues is unwelcome, at least at the federal level,\u201d Neilly said, when asked what Secretary Cardona\u2019s apparent actions indicate about the Biden administration\u2019s attitude towards protesting parents. \u201cParents have been growing increasingly vocal about their displeasure with the state of American education across the board \u2014 but it\u2019s a real question whether the Administration is listening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the Department of Education floated a trial balloon about leveraging an existing civics grant program to insert materials like the 1619 Project and Ibram Kendi into schools, we <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/press-releases\/the-biden-administrations-plan-to-push-critical-race-theory-in-public-schools-and-what-you-can-do-about-it\/\">created a comment portal<\/a> for people to weigh in through Regulations.gov \u2014 and nearly 12,000 people did so,\u201d Neilly added. \u201cIn the wake of Attorney General Garland\u2019s October 4 memo, we created another portal where over 7,300 people sent letters directly to DOJ expressing their condemnation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Education Department denied that Cardona solicited the NSBA letter in a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/education-secretary-cardona-solicited-nsba-letter-comparing-parents-domestic-terrorists-email\">Fox News<\/a>, saying, \u201cWhile the Secretary did not solicit a letter from NSBA, to understand the views and concerns of stakeholders, the Department routinely engages with students, teachers, parents, district leaders and education associations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
