Ava Phillippe, 22, made the comments during a fan Q&amp;A on her Instagram page, the Daily Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/tvshowbiz\/article-10389613\/Reese-Witherspoons-daughter-Ava-Phillippe-22-says-gender-whatever.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailceleb\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A fan apparently asked her, \u201cDo you like boys or girls,\u201d to which Ava responded, \u201cI\u2019m attracted to\u2026 people! (Gender is whatever).\u201d Ava has been in a relationship with Owen Mahoney, a fellow University of California Berkeley student.<\/p>\n<p>Ava is the eldest daughter of Witherspoon and Phillippe, who also share 18-year-old son Deacon together. Witherspoon also has a 9-year-old son, Tennessee, with her current husband Jim Toth.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Witherspoon recently shared some of the challenges she faced parenting children as a famous actress. She spoke about how different her own childhood was during a conversation with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/celebrity\/reese-witherspoon\/december-2021-cover\">InStyle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an odd situation because I didn\u2019t grow up famous. So [Ava is] living an experience that I did not have, and so are my sons,\u201d the \u201cBig Little Lies\u201d star said. \u201cWe are lucky enough to have friends who grew up in Hollywood and can help give them advice on how to navigate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, discussing how she\u2019s letting her daughter experience her own life journey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAva is so down-to-earth. She wants to do great things in the world,\u201d Witherspoon told InStyle. \u201cShe\u2019s studying and learning and trying to find herself. It\u2019s a big thing in life to try different things and figure out what is really your path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And while Ava is growing up in the internet age with access to all kinds of information, Witherspoon previously shared how her own background was a lot more sheltered. The A-lister admitted during an interview with \u201cLegally Blonde\u201d co-star Regina King last year that she \u201cdidn\u2019t understand what homosexuality was\u201d until moving to Los Angeles when she was just beginning her career as an actress, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/06\/25\/reese-witherspoon-didnt-know-about-gay-people-until-moving-to-l-a\/\">according to<\/a> Page Six.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one spoke to me about sexuality when I was a teenager,\u201d Witherspoon told King. \u201cI didn\u2019t understand what homosexuality was. My grandparents didn\u2019t explain it, my parents didn\u2019t explain it. I had to learn from somebody I met on an audition in Los Angeles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Academy Award winner was born in New Orleans and raised in Nashville. She now co-owns a media company and clothing line.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During a 2006 appearance on The Chelsea Handler Show, Witherspoon reflected on her upbringing with a bit of criticism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up, obviously, in the South and there is amazing, wonderful connectivity and people are loving and communitive,\u201d the actress said. \u201cBut there is a tiny aspect of it, people [that] use parts of the Bible in order to express their intolerance and their hate and they manipulate it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also incorporated a real-life conversation she had with her grandmother about homosexuality into the TV series \u201cLittle Fires Everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said: \u2018Homosexuality is very rare, Reese.
