Gabby Giffords and killed six others.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Court Judge Jed Rakoff on Tuesday set January 24 as the selection date for jurors in the case to be set in Manhattan, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/new-york-times-sarah-palin-trial-1235073229\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPalin is represented by a legal team led by Shane Vogt at Bajo Cuva Cohen Turkel while The New York Times is being handled by a team including David A. Schulz at Ballard Spahr,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe initial version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/14\/opinion\/steve-scalise-congress-shot-alexandria-virginia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"the 2017 Times editorial (opens in a new window)\">the 2017 Times editorial<\/a> said it was \u2018clear\u2019 that the 2011 shooting was linked to a map Palin\u2019s political action committee released that included crosshairs over Giffords\u2019 Tucson district. However, no such link has ever been established. The shooter \u2026 was found to be mentally ill and was sentenced to life in prison in 2012,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/08\/29\/sarah-palin-libel-new-york-times-404810\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> reported in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Times later corrected the wording, but Palin pursued the legal suit, claiming the outlet should be held responsible for the false claim.<\/p>\n<p>The case was originally turned down in 2017. In 2019, a federal appeals court ruled the case could proceed under Judge Rakoff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking the evidence in the light most favorable to plaintiff, she has sufficiently pointed to enough issues of triable fact that would enable a jury to find by clear and convincing evidence that Bennet knew, or was reckless not to know, that his words would convey the meaning in the minds of the readers that plaintiff asserts was libelous, to wit, that she bore a direct responsibility for inciting the Loughner shooting,\u201d Rakoff wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The case could lead to an interesting situation in which a New York jury is called upon to determine whether the conservative leader should receive income for legal damages from a publication within the jurors\u2019 home state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/11\/sarah-palin-wants-masked-singer-footage-barred-from-jury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Post<\/a> noted a list of exhibits Palin\u2019s legal team filed to exclude in the upcoming case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a court filing in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/06\/27\/sarah-palin-sues-ny-times-for-tying-political-ad-to-mass-shooting\/\">Manhattan federal suit<\/a> Monday, the former GOP vice presidential candidate listed a number of proposed exhibits she wants hidden from the jury because they could cause \u2018unfair prejudice and confusion,\u2019 among other issues,\u201d The Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong the exhibits listed are \u2018Masked Singer Video \u2013 Dancing and Rapping\u2019 and \u2018Masked Singer Video \u2013 Reveal,\u2019\u201d The Post added.<\/p>\n<p>Palin recently made headlines in December during an interview with Newsmax host Eric Bolling on \u201cThe Balance\u201d in which she stated she would \u201clove\u201d to return to politics. The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/i-would-love-to-sarah-palin-on-possible-return-to-politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou\u2019re a very popular personality. You\u2019re a very popular politician,\u201d Bolling told Palin. \u201cDo you have aspirations to get back into elected office, or anything more in politics? What\u2019s next for Sarah Palin?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI would love to. I would never say never,\u201d Palin replied without hesitation. \u201cI feel like there are still some offerings that I have in terms of a servant\u2019s heart. I want to serve. I want to help the people. And I think I have a heck of a lot of common sense, and that\u2019s what we need today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She added, \u201cI\u2019m not so obsessively partisan that I\u2019d let that get in the way of just doing what\u2019s right for the people.
