Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/GettyImages-1230015906.jpg?w=1200&amp;h=800&amp;ixlib=react-9.0.3\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will release guidelines on how to safely reopen schools this week, according to CNN, and President Joe Biden says he plans to follow their guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Before taking office, Biden pledged to reopen schools within the first 100 days of his presidency \u2014 a promise that is now complicated, given that teachers\u2019 unions are largely opposed to a return to in-classroom learning without very specific conditions, and teachers unions were also some of the largest donors to Biden\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC\u2019s director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, said last week that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cdc-schools-can-reopen-safely-without-vaccinating-teachers-against-covid-19\">schools can safely reopen<\/a> without vaccinating teachers against COVID-19, echoing comments that a CDC research team made in the Journal of the American Medical Association the week before, noting that, after months of tracking data about coronavirus in schools, researchers could find evidence of only \u201cscant transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated,\u201d Dr. Walensky told reporters during a COVID-19 response team press conference last Wednesday. \u201cVaccinations of teachers is not a prerequisite for safely reopening schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe preponderance of available evidence from the fall school semester has been reassuring,\u201d the CDC\u2019s researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/education\/cdc-school-virus-spread\/2021\/01\/26\/bf949222-5fe6-11eb-9061-07abcc1f9229_story.html\">said in their JAMA article<\/a>. \u201cThere has been little evidence that schools have contributed meaningfully to increased community transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conclusion here is with proper prevention efforts\u2026we can keep transmission in schools and educational settings quite low,\u201d the study\u2019s lead author added. \u201cWe didn\u2019t know that at the beginning of the year but the data has really accumulated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House, likely aware that teachers unions like the one in Chicago were demanding all educators be vaccinated before returning to classrooms, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jen-psaki-denies-existence-of-cdc-guidance-to-reopens-schools\">told reporters last week that Dr. Walensky was speaking<\/a> in her \u201cpersonal capacity,\u201d and claimed that the CDC had yet to release any information guiding in-person learning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have not released their official guidance yet from the CDC on the vaccination of teachers and what would be needed to ensure the safe reopening of schools,\u201d White House press secretary Psaki said. \u201cThe president himself has talked about the importance and priority of vaccinating teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, in an interview with NBC\u2019s Norah O\u2019Donnell, Biden agreed that the CDC plans to issue clear guidance this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to have fewer people in classrooms. You have to have ventilation systems that have been re-worked,\u201d Biden told O\u2019Donnell in the pre-Super Bowl interview. \u201cOur CDC commissioner is going to be coming out with science-based judgment within I think as early as Wednesday to lay out what the minimum requirements are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden did not address whether he believed the CDC director\u2019s comments from last week represented non-science based judgment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-schools-reopen-provide-cdc-science-this-week\">Fox News notes that the CDC has had clear guideline<\/a>s for reopening schools for some time and that the Biden administration appears to be ignoring those guidelines in favor of new recommendations that may smooth over its conflicts.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The president failed to mention, however, that CDC guidelines on schools reopening have been available for months. In mid-September \u2014 nearly two months before the&nbsp;2020 presidential election&nbsp;\u2014 the agency released \u201cIndicators for School Decision-Making.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The&nbsp;recommendations&nbsp;created a five-tiered risk assessment based on the number of new cases per 100,000 persons within the previous 14 days, and the percentage of positivity rates in the same timeframe.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The CDC said that a school falling into a \u201cmedium,\u201d \u201chigher,\u201d or \u201chighest,\u201d risk category did not necessarily mean that the school shouldn\u2019t reopen for in-person learning, only that the school should use \u201calternative learning models\u201d like a hybrid learning.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Teachers\u2019 unions, however, are already sounding off about the CDC\u2019s vaccine recommendations. American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten says the union will continue to push for the shots if districts cannot guarantee teacher safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVaccinations go from a priority to essential if you can\u2019t do some of these basic mitigation strategies,\u201d Weingarten said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/education\/school-reopening-debate-tests-bidens-ties-with-teachers-unions\">according to PBS<\/a>. \u201cRather than keep these schools closed for months, why not vaccinate teachers more quickly?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
