Most of those candidates have not so much as mentioned the name of the bill in their social media posts and campaign materials.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While Democrats \u201cfrequently tout their commitment\u201d to several of the bill\u2019s provisions \u2014 like prescription drug costs, child care, and \u201cclimate change\u201d \u2014 many \u201cdon\u2019t explicitly acknowledge \u201d Biden\u2019s $2 trillion in \u201csocial spending.\u201d The report continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>There are plenty of reasons, Democratic strategists and staffers say, for candidates to avoid talking about Build Back Better right now. First and foremost is the bill\u2019s uncertain fate. Before Christmas, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV)\u2014the party\u2019s main obstacle in enacting the plan\u2014announced he had too many concerns about the legislation to continue negotiating with the White House.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Democrat strategist Jesse Ferguson told the publication that unless Manchin agrees to a scaled-down version of the bill that passed the House, it \u201cdoesn\u2019t make much sense\u201d for candidates to \u201csell their voters\u201d on Build Back Better.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, other Democrats have privately said that the large scope of Build Back Better is \u201crisky\u201d&nbsp; because Republican opponents could associate Democrats with \u201cless popular parts of the massive bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe aide, speaking anonymously to candidly describe strategy, also acknowledged that Biden\u2019s sinking poll numbers are also making candidates more hesitant to embrace the bill,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Democrat candidates running in largely Democrat districts are more apt to vocalize support for Biden\u2019s agenda \u2014 though the party strategy moving forward is to focus on \u201cspecific aspects\u201d of the bill that will \u201cbolster broader Democratic ideas on the economy, healthcare, and other issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Strategist Kristen Hawn told the <em>Daily Beast<\/em>&nbsp;she would tell candidates to select three areas of the legislation that would \u201cresonate most in their districts\u2014and stick with them instead of embracing or rejecting the bill as a whole,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson predicted that if Biden\u2019s agenda does pass, Democrats will turn their silence \u201cinto a loud roar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a scenario in which you\u2019re seeing a lot more ads in fall 2022 that are about prescription drugs and health care premiums and child care than ads about roads and bridges,\u201d Ferguson said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democrat Congressional candidates running in GOP House districts are noticeably avoiding talking about President Joe Biden\u2019s floundering Build Back Better agenda, the Daily Beast observed on Tuesday.
