Rand Paul (R-KY), an outspoken critic of the Biden administration\u2019s handling of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, asked on Monday if the government can mandate a vaccine that is not even effective against the current strain of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan government mandate you take a vaccine that is not effective against the current strain?\u201d Paul asked on Twitter, linking to an opinion piece in the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, which asserts that it would be \u201cirrational, legally indefensible and contrary to the public interest for government to mandate vaccines absent any evidence that the vaccines are effective in stopping the spread of the pathogen they target\u201d and concludes that is \u201cexactly what\u2019s happening here\u201d:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Can government mandate you take a vaccine that is not effective against the current strain? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lhQCBzrgtv\">https:\/\/t.co\/lhQCBzrgtv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RandPaul\/status\/1480536953829396485?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Indeed, for months, public health officials have changed their tune on the vaccines, suggesting they prevent hospitalization and severe illness rather than transmission, despite the fact that they did not originally sell the vaccines to the general public that way. Even before they discovered the omicron variant, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Rochelle Walensky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/10\/cdc-changed-tune-before-omicron-what-the-vaccines-cant-do-anymore-is-prevent-transmission\/\">admitted<\/a> in an August interview on CNN that vaccines did not prevent transmission.<\/p>\n<p>When asked in that interview if vaccinated but infected people could pass the virus on to others, she replied, \u201cSo, yes, they can with the delta variant. And that was the reason that we changed our guidance last Tuesday. Our vaccines are working exceptionally well. They continue to work well with delta with regard to severe illness and death. They prevent it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what they can\u2019t do anymore is prevent transmission,\u201d she added:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cOur vaccines are working exceptionally well,\u201d CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky tells <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wolfblitzer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@wolfblitzer<\/a>. \u201cThey continue to work well for Delta, with regard to severe illness and death \u2013 they prevent it.
